  • Mike Badgley K | BUF

Chargers' Michael Badgley: Officially promoted to active roster

Badgley was officially signed to the Chargers' active roster Monday, Ricky Henne of the team's official site reports.

This was expected after Los Angeles cut ties with kicker Caleb Sturgis earlier Monday after the veteran missed a field-goal attempt and two PATs during Sunday's loss to Seattle. Badgley will now take over as the starting kicker within an offense averaging 27.5 points per game in 2018, which checks in as the 11th-highest figure in the league. While filling in for an injured Sturgis in Weeks 6 and 7, Badgley converted all three of his attempted field goals (with the longest coming from 44 yards) and all seven of his PATs.

    Michael Badgley: Ready for promotion

Badgley is likely to be promoted from the practice squad to serve as the Chargers' kicker Sunday against the Raiders, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The Chargers demoted Badgley when Caleb Sturgis returned from a quadriceps injury, only to reverse course Monday after Sturgis missed a trio of kicks in a 25-17 win over the Seahawks. With Sturgis no longer on the roster, it's seemingly just a matter of time until Badgley is promoted into a role that attaches him to one of the best offenses in the NFL. The rookie kicker was flawless while filling in for Sturgis earlier this season, converting each of his three field-goal attempts and each of his seven point-after tries. The Week 10 matchup makes Badgley a worthy addition for those in need of a kicker.

  • Caleb Sturgis: Released by Chargers

Sturgis was released by the Chargers on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The Chargers thought they'd finally obtained a reliable kicker when they signed Sturgis in March, but he's instead turned out to be another disaster, missing four field goals and six PATs in six games. Michael Badgley presumably will be promoted from the practice squad to replace Sturgis for Week 10 at Oakland. There's potential for fantasy relevance given that Badgley will be attached to one of the NFL's better offenses.

  • Raiders' Daniel Carlson: Misses from 45 yards in blowout loss

Carlson made one of two field-goal attempts in Thursday's 34-3 loss to the 49ers.

Carlson has been held to just seven total points in two contests with Oakland, having missed from 45 yards during the Raiders' brutal performance Thursday night. The offense could struggle to move the ball again in Week 10 against the 6-2 Chargers.

  • Texans' Ka'imi Fairbairn: Atones for XP miss in Week 9 win

Fairbairn successfully converted both field-goal attempts and one of two extra-point kicks in Sunday's 19-17 win over Denver.

Fairbairn's missed extra point, his first of the season, loomed large entering the fourth quarter of a one-point game, but the Texans gave the kicker a chance at redemption. He connected from 37 yards away for the final scoring play of the game, clinching Houston's sixth straight win. Fairbairn enters the Texans' bye week having made 19 of 22 field-goal attempts, while his 8.8 PPG is tied for sixth among kickers.

  • Chargers' Caleb Sturgis: Misses three kicks in win

Sturgis (quadriceps) missed his only field-goal attempt and made just one of his three extra-point attempts in the 25-17 win over the Seahawks.

Sturgis missed the previous two weeks thanks to a quad injury, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see the veteran get cut after yet another dreadful kicking day. 9-of-15 on extra points and 9-of-13 on field-goal attempts is particularly bad, even for Chargers kickers, and the egregious numbers will likely bring the return of Michael Badgley, the rookie kicker who filled in for Sturgis during the aforementioned absence.

  • Jason Myers K | SEA

Jets' Jason Myers: Makes two long kicks, misses one

Myers made two of three field-goal attempts in Sunday's 13-6 loss to the Dolphins.

Myers missed a game-tying attempt with the team down 6-3 early in the fourth quarter, overshadowing makes from 48 and 56 yards. As those distances indicate, New York wasn't able to work the ball deep into Miami territory. Until the Jets pick things up offensively, Myers will be tough to trust.

  • Steelers' Chris Boswell: Misses yet again

Boswell made his only field-goal attempt (29 yards) and two of three extra-point tries during Sunday's 23-16 win over Baltimore.

His streak of perfect games ends at two, and he has missed at least one attempt in five of eight games this season. Despite all the offensive weapons, Boswell is averaging just five points per game and faces the Panthers - who yield the third fewest points per game to opposing kickers - in Week 10.

  • Falcons' Giorgio Tavecchio: Yet to miss kick in 2018

Tavecchio was five-for-five on PATs, while converting on his lone field-goal try from 27 yards out during Sunday's 38-14 win against Washington.

Tavecchio remains perfect through two games as a Falcon, sinking all four of his field-goal attempts (three of which came from 40-plus yards out), while hitting on seven-of-seven extra-point tries. If Matt Bryant (hamstring) is ruled out for a third straight game in Week 10, Tavecchio will retain his kicking duties against Cleveland, a team that allowed the fifth-most field-goal attempts coming into the weekend (19). If nothing more comes of it, the "Italian Stallion" has performed well enough in substitute duties to open up potential starting opportunities down the road.

  • Falcons' Giorgio Tavecchio: Handling Week 9 kicking duties

Tavecchio will remain the Falcons' kicker for Sunday's game in Washington with Matt Bryant (hamstring) ruled out for the contest, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.

After sitting out the Falcons' Week 7 win over the Giants with the injury, Bryant failed to show enough improvement coming out of the team's Week 8 bye to gain clearance for Sunday. As a result, Tavecchio will get a chance to build on his strong Atlanta debut versus the Giants, during which he converted both extra-point tries and all three of his field-goal attempts, including two from 50-plus yards. Though he'll be buoyed by an offense that ranks seventh in the NFL with 401 yards per game this season, Tavecchio's opportunities may be more limited than they were in Week 7 while Atlanta matches up with a stout Washington defense that has yielded just 19.1 points and one field goal attempt per contest.
