Player Outlook
Sanders is set to kick for the Giants this season, a not-too-bad spot considering the expectations for the offense. He didn't kick in 2025 due to injury but hit at least 81% of his field goals from 2022-24, including 37 of 41 in 2024. John Harbaugh's track record with kickers is extensive - many have done well with him as the head coach. As long as the Giants provide Sanders with a couple of field goal tries every week, Sanders should be a decent Fantasy leg worthy of a late-round pick.

  • Jets' Jason Sanders: Replacing Koo in New York

The Jets are signing Sanders and waiving Younghoe Koo, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. Sanders took just one day to find a new team after the Giants released him on Tuesday. He held down the placekicking job in Miami from 2018 to 2024, but after missing all of last season with a hip injury, Sanders may have to compete with Cade York (groin) for the Jets' placekicker job. York has been missing OTA practices due to a groin injury, so the Jets might even consider bringing in another kicker at some point.

  • Jason Sanders: Cut by Giants

The Giants released Sanders on Tuesday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Sanders signed as a free agent back in March, but he's now back on the free agent market with offseason workouts underway. The competition for the Giants' kicking job is now between Ben Sauls and undrafted rookie Dominic Zvada.

  • Giants' Jason Sanders: Joining G-Men

Sanders is signing a one-year deal with the Giants, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Sanders was Miami's kicker from 2018 to 2024, before missing the entire 2025 campaign with a hip injury. He returned to practice at the very end of the season, which suggests he should be back at full health a few months later. Sanders had a career year in 2024, converting 37 of 41 field-goal attempts for the Dolphins. His fantasy value in 2026 will depend on locking down the starting job and earning John Harbaugh's trust on long attempts.

  • Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Staying on IR, done for 2025

Sanders (hip) has been downgraded from questionable to out for Sunday's game against the Patriots, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Sanders will end up spending the entire 2025 season on injured reserve due to a hip injury he sustained in the preseason. Riley Patterson will serve as the Dolphins' starting kicker in Sunday's regular-season finale, as he's done for the entire 2025 campaign.

  • Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Uncertain for Week 18

Sanders (hip) has been deemed questionable for Sunday's matchup versus New England. Sanders hasn't appeared in a regular-season game during the current campaign after injuring his hip in preseason. He had his practice window opened in mid-December and logged a trio of limited practices this week, but he remains on IR and would need to be activated in order to be able to suit up Sunday. Riley Patterson has operated as the Dolphins' kicker in all 16 contests to this point and has been very accurate, making 26 of 28 field-goal attempts and 33 of 34 extra-point tries.

  • Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Questionable, Week 17 kicker TBD

Sanders (hip), who remains on IR, was limited in practice Friday and is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Friday that the team hasn't yet decided whether Sanders or Riley Patterson will handle placekicking duties this weekend in the event that both kickers are available, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. Sanders has spent the entire regular season to date on IR, paving the way for Patterson to kick in all 15 of Miami's games so far. Patterson has been reliable in that span, converting 24 of 26 field-goal tries and all but one of his 32 PATs. Sanders remains under contract with the Dolphins through the 2026 campaign, which will be the final season of the five-year, $22 million deal he inked with the team in February 2021.

  • Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Officially out for Week 16

Sanders (hip) is officially ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bengals, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Sanders wasn't activated from IR on Saturday, making him ineligible to play Sunday. He had his 21-day practice window opened Wednesday but isn't yet ready to rejoin the 53-man roster. Riley Patterson has been accurate as Miami's kicker thus far and will get another chance to prove his consistency during Sunday's game against Cincinnati.

  • Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Unlikely to play in Week 16

Sanders (hip) isn't expected to play Sunday against the Bengals, but he may return in Week 17 against the Buccaneers or Week 18 against the Patriots, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports. Sanders had his 21-day window to return from injured reserve opened Wednesday, but he isn't expected to make his season debut Sunday. The kicker will likely be ruled out on Friday's injury report, which would pave the way for Riley Patterson to continue performing kicking duties for the Dolphins.

  • Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Practice window opens

Sanders (hip) had his 21-day window opened to return from injured reserve Wednesday, Alain Poupart of SI.com reports. Sanders has been sidelined for the entirety of the regular season to this point while nursing a hip injury he suffered in August. He will now have a 21-day practice window opened, and he's eligible to be added to the active roster at any point in that time frame. Riley Patterson has operated as Miami's starting kicker so far this year, going 24-for-26 on field-goal attempts, including 2-for-3 from 50-plus yards, so there's no guarantee that the Dolphins activate Sanders this season.

  • Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Staying sidelined Week 15

Sanders (hip) will not be designated to return from IR in Week 15, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. Sanders has spent the entire regular season on IR due to a hip injury suffered during the preseason, and the Dolphins have yet to provide a clear timetable for his return. Meanwhile, Riley Patterson has been outstanding across 13 regular-season appearances, converting 23 of 25 field-goal attempts (92 percent) and 28 of 29 extra-point tries. The team will have little incentive to open Sanders' practice window unless Patterson begins struggling.

  • Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Timeline for return uncertain

Dolphins special teams coordinator Craig Aukerman said Thursday that he's uncertain if Sanders (hip) is close to returning to action or if the kicker will be activated from injured reserve this season, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. After sustaining a hip injury late in the preseason, Sanders was placed on IR with a designation for return. According to Jackson, Sanders' original recovery timeline was expected to range from 4-to-5 weeks, but because he's now about six weeks removed from suffering the injury and not yet praccticing, the veteran kicker may have experienced some sort of setback along the way. The Dolphins don't appear eager to rush Sanders back to the field, especially with Riley Patterson having filled in admirably in his stead through the first six weeks of the season. One of the few bright spots for the 1-5 Dolphins, Patterson has gone 15-for-15 on extra-point attempts and 7-for-8 on field-goal tries, with his lone miss coming from 57 yards out in this past Sunday's 29-27 loss to the Chargers.

  • Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Likely out for Week 6

Head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Wednesday that Sanders (hip) is not ready to return from injured reserve, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Although McDaniel didn't officially rule out Sanders for Sunday's matchup against the Chargers, the kicker would have to be activated to the team's active roster, which seems unlikely following Wednesday's comments. Expect Riley Patterson to continue operating as Miami's top place kicker until Sanders can return from his hip issue.

  • Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Out at least four games

The Dolphins placed Sanders (hip) on injured reserve Tuesday, ruling him out for at least the first four games of the regular season. Sanders will be eligible to return in Week 5 against Carolina, but it's not clear yet if he'll be fully recovered from a hip injury by then. The Dolphins will need to add another kicker to the active roster in advance of a Week 1 clash with the Colts.

  • Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Not expected to play Week 1

Coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that Sanders (hip) is not expected to be available for Week 1 against the Colts, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. McDaniel said the opposite over the weekend, though it's not believed to be a season-ending injury, as Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Monday that Sanders will be sidelined 4-to-5 weeks.. Without another kicker on the roster, Miami will need to add one before facing Indianapolis on Sunday, Sept. 7.

  • Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Expected back by Week 1

Coach Mike McDaniel said Saturday that Sanders (undisclosed) is expected to be fine for Miami's Week 1 game against the Colts on Sept. 7, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports. Sanders didn't kick for Miami in its preseason finale Saturday, though McDaniel didn't specify what is plaguing the kicker. Sanders made 37 of 41 field-goal tries, including 12 of 14 from 50-plus yards, across 17 regular-season games last season. He also converted 26 of 28 extra-point attempts.

  • Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Perfect in win over Cleveland

Sanders converted both of his field-goal tries and both extra-point attempts during Sunday's 20-3 win over the Browns. Sanders has been perfect on 25 consecutive field-goal attempts across his last 10 appearances. On the year, he boasts a 90 percent conversion rate (35 of 39) on field-goal tries and has made 24 of 26 PATs. He'll work to close out the regular season strong Week 18 at home against the Jets.

  • Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Scores 17 points in Week 16 win

Sanders converted all five of his field-goal attempts during Sunday's 29-17 win over the 49ers. He also made both of his extra-point tries. Sanders accounted for more than half of Miami's total points during the Week 16 win, his most productive game of the 2024 campaign. The veteran is now three field-goal conversions away from his career-best mark of 36, with Sunday's upcoming road matchup against the Browns representing his first of two remaining regular-season contests to set a new career high.

  • Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Fairly accurate in loss

Sanders converted both of his field-goal tries but missed his only extra-point attempt during Miami's 20-12 loss to the Texans on Sunday. Sanders missed just his second PAT of the year during Sunday's loss, making him 20-for-22 on extra-point attempts across 14 appearances. In terms of field goals, Sanders is now a solid 28-for-32. Sanders has logged at least two-field goal attempts in 12 of 14 appearances this season, providing him with a solid fantasy floor heading into a tough Week 16 game against the 49ers at home.

  • Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Converts lone field-goal try

Sanders converted his only field-goal attempt in Thursday's 30-17 loss to the Packers. Sanders wasn't allotted many scoring opportunities during Thursday's loss, in which Miami succumbed to an early deficit and had to aggressively pursue touchdowns in an ultimately failed comeback attempt. A home matchup against the Jets in Week 14 should allow the Dolphins' offense to return to a more normal game script. Thursday's loss represents just the second time in 12 appearances this season that Sanders has logged less than two field-goal tries.

  • Dolphins' Jason Sanders: Perfect in prime-time win

Sanders made all three of his field-goal attempts and converted both of his extra-point tries during Monday's 23-15 win against the Rams. Sanders has now made multiple field goals in three consecutive games, and he hasn't missed a kick during that span despite attempting three field goals from 50-plus yards out. It looks like he'll have another good setup in Week 11 when Miami hosts the Raiders.
