The Browns agreed to trade Garrett to the Rams on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Garrett will bolster a win-now Rams team, while the rebuilding Browns get back Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a 2029 third-round pick. The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year set the league record with 23.0 sacks in the 2025 regular season, and he should have even more opportunities to rush the passer on a Rams team that's expected to play with the lead much more often than the Browns have in recent years.

The Browns are finalizing a trade Monday that will send Garrett to the Rams, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Garrett, who tallied a career-high 23.0 sacks across 17 regular-season appearances in 2025, reportedly will be dealt to Los Angeles with Cleveland receiving edge rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick and other draft compensation in return. The transaction is a substantial all-in maneuver by the Rams, as the team works to maximize the competitive window of veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford, who inked a one-year extension in mid-May. Garrett remains one of the most impactful defensive players in the league and will arguably see his IDP fantasy prospects rise even further once the trade is finalized.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Browns don't intend to trade Garrett, who agreed to restructure his contract earlier this week. Schefter was told that the Browns are "100 percent not trading" the reigning Defensive Player of the Year. That won't necessarily stop other teams from calling, especially after Garrett's contract restructure fueled trade rumors. The restructure did a few different things with bonuses, including pushing back the dates for large option bonuses to be exercised in 2026-28 -- an adjustment that makes it easier to spread Garrett's dead-cap charge across two seasons in the event of a trade. The Browns reportedly plan to keep him for now, but perhaps with the knowledge that another losing season could lead to Garrett asking out. He publicly requested a trade less than 14 months ago, in February of 2025, before signing a four-year extension in March of 2025.

Garrett and the Browns reached agreement Tuesday on a modified contract, ESPN.com's Field Yates reports. Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Browns have no plans to trade Garrett, even though these contract modifications make it easier to do so from a cap standpoint. It won't come as a huge surprise if the rebuilding franchise eventually trades its 30-year-old superstar, but the Browns did respond with a massive four-year extension when Garrett requested a trade in February 2025. Garrett then broke the single-season record for sacks (23) while playing for a team that went 5-12 and faced just 487 opponent pass attempts (third-fewest). Garrett's renegotiated contract crucially pushes the date for option bonuses in 2026-28 from late March to late August, reducing the current-year dead-cap charge associated with a potential trade.

Garrett recorded 1.0 sack on his only tackle and added a second QB hit in Sunday's 20-18 win over the Bengals. His fourth-quarter takedown of Joe Burrow put Garrett in the history books, as it gave him 23.0 sacks on the season -- breaking the NFL record of 22.5 previously held by Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt. Garrett's stellar campaign was one of the few bright spots for the Browns in 2025, and he's delivered at least 14.0 sacks in five straight seasons. With a contract that runs through 2030, the 30-year-old edge rusher should return as the centerpiece of the Cleveland defense next year.
