McCaffrey rushed 11 times for 68 yards and a touchdown while catching all three of his targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 32-29 win over the Seahawks. McCaffrey gave the 49ers a 14-10 lead with an 11-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. His 14 touches tied a season low, and McCaffrey has yet to reach 20 touches in a game, as the undefeated 49ers have been content to manage his workload to some extent in order to keep the star running back fresh after McCaffrey averaged over 24 touches per game in the 2025 regular season. The reduced workload hasn't kept McCaffrey from scoring five touchdowns across his last four games, and he'll look to extend his four-game scoring streak in Week 6 against the Commanders.

McCaffrey saw a reduced workload by his lofty standards, although he still outpaced backfield mate Kaelon Black by nine carries. The star back had to tough out the majority of his gains on the ground, including his one-yard touchdown run with just under nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. McCaffrey has yet to top 15 carries in any game this season, but he has four rushing TDs and 340 total yards heading into a Week 5 road showdown against the Seahawks next Sunday.

McCaffrey's carry total was modest by his standards, but he still outpaced backup Kaelon Black by 11 carries and four targets while also recording a one-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter. McCaffrey was highly efficient with his rushing opportunities, and he finished second in receptions and third in targets for the 49ers on the afternoon. San Francisco's pass-catching corps suffered further attrition this weekend -- Mike Evans exited the game with rib and oblique injuries, while Demarcus Robinson (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Saturday -- so McCaffrey could continue to see his pass-game work creep up in a Week 4 home showdown against the Broncos next Sunday.

McCaffrey opened the scoring with a one-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and added another one-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. The two-touchdown performance brought McCaffrey's career regular-season touchdown total up to 100. Exactly half of those touchdowns have come with the 49ers, as McCaffrey joins Marshall Faulk and Randy Moss as the only players to score at least 50 touchdowns apiece for multiple teams, per ESPN Insights. McCaffrey should continue to contribute as both a runner and a pass catcher in Week 3 against the Cardinals.

Coming off a 2025 regular season where he was able to suit up for all 17 games while handling 413 total touches, McCaffrey saw a notable workload reduction to open the new campaign. Rookie third-round pick Kaelon Black actually outpaced McCaffrey by four carries, but it was the latter who edged out his new backfield mate for the team lead in rushing yards. McCaffrey flashed his trademark explosiveness when carrying the ball and should still helm the ground attack on the majority of weeks, although lopsided game scripts in either direction could lead to head coach Kyle Shanahan taking the opportunity to curtail his star running back's volume. McCaffrey will next take aim at what is expected to be a vulnerable Dolphins defense in a Week 2 matchup on Sunday, Sept. 20.
