2026 Superflex podcast mock draft: Waiting on QB pays off as Kyler Murray anchors late-round build

Superflex leagues clearly favor quarterbacks, but that doesn't mean you have to reach for the position on Draft Day. You can wait for a quarterback or your second quarterback and still build a winning team.

We held a 12-team, PPR, Superflex mock draft Friday with listeners of our Fantasy Football Today Podcast. Alfredo Brown of Reception Perception also took part in this mock draft, along with me and Adam Aizer.

No team started QB-QB in this draft, but three teams drafted two quarterbacks through Round 3. Seven teams had two quarterbacks through Round 5.

I waited until Round 5 to draft my first quarterback, which was Kyler Murray. And Ty Langston waited until Round 6 for his first quarterback, which was Baker Mayfield. Let's look at some different quarterback builds to see what might work best.

Matt Knight had the No. 1 overall pick in this draft, and he started with Jahmyr Gibbs. Matt then went QB-QB at the Rounds 2-3 turn with Jayden Daniels and Brock Purdy, and Matt drafted a third quarterback in Round 7 with Tyler Shough.

Matt ended up with a solid running back corps of Gibbs, Bucky Irving, Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Kyle Monangai, Dylan Sampson and Isiah Pacheco. Matt's receivers are Tetairoa McMillan, Emeka Egbuka and Makai Lemon. And the tight ends are Tucker Kraft and Dallas Goedert.

I don't love this roster because of the receiving corps, and I thought Purdy went too soon. I also would have drafted another receiver instead of Goedert.

Alfredo started his team from the No. 10 spot with Lamar Jackson. Alfredo didn't draft another quarterback until Round 6 with Malik Willis, and those are the only quarterbacks on Alfredo's roster.

His running backs are James Cook, Jonathon Brooks, RJ Harvey, MarShawn Lloyd and Tyjae Spears. Alfredo has Nico Collins, Luther Burden III, Carnell Tate, Jayden Reed, Jalen Coker and Matthew Golden at receiver. And the tight end is Trey McBride.

I like this roster a lot, and this is typically how I would build a Superflex team with one quarterback early and then another with a mid-round pick. I would have preferred if Alfredo drafted a third quarterback, but that's a minor concern.

I drafted three quarterbacks because I needed them after waiting until Round 5 to get Kyler Murray. I then drafted C.J. Stroud in Round 8 and Jacoby Brissett in Round 9.

It was not my intention to draft quarterbacks like this, but I had to alter my plan twice. The first time was in Round 4 when Trevor Lawrence went right before my pick, so I pivoted to Tee Higgins. Then, I expected one of Jaxson Dart, Matthew Stafford or Jared Goff to fall back to me in Round 5, but all three were selected before my pick.

I didn't panic, and instead I tried to build the best roster of running backs, wide receivers and tight ends. My running backs are Kenneth Walker III, Breece Hall, Rachaad White, Jonah Coleman and Keaton Mitchell. My receivers are Puka Nacua, Higgins, Terry McLaurin, Wan'Dale Robinson and Deebo Samuel. And my tight end is Brock Bowers.

I love this team if the quarterbacks are above average. Murray has the chance to be good now that he's in Minnesota, and we'll see if Stroud and Brissett can be successful this year.

Take a look at which quarterback build works for you. Just don't panic if you don't get an elite quarterback in the first four or five rounds.

As a reference point for this mock draft, all touchdowns are worth six points, and we award one point for every 10 yards rushing and receiving and one point for every 25 yards passing. We also award one point for every reception. We feature a starting lineup of QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, TE, 2 FLEX (RB/WR/TE) and a SUPERFLEX (QB/RB/WR/TE) with five reserves for a 14-round draft.
