Fortes will start at catcher and bat sixth in Monday's game against the Cubs, Ryan Bass of Rays.tv reports.

After taking a seat in favor of Hunter Feduccia in both of the Rays' previous two games, Fortes will be back behind the dish Monday in the team's home opener. Fortes has been the more productive of the Rays' two catchers in the early going, producing a .967 OPS over 27 plate appearances.

Palacios is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs, Ryan Bass of Rays.tv reports.

Even with Gavin Lux (shoulder) on the shelf to begin the season, the left-handed-hitting Palacios hasn't been able to take control of a strong-side platoon role at second base. The Rays have instead opted for more of a timeshare at the keystone between Palacios and Ben Williamson, who gets the nod for Monday's home opener. Palacios has now been left out of the starting nine in three of the Rays' last six matchups with right-handed pitchers.

After being activated from the injured list, Taylor Walls (oblique) will cover shortstop in the Rays' home opener, but Williamson will remain in the lineup for a seventh straight game while shifting over to the keystone. Through his first nine games with the Rays, Williamson is hitting .281, but he's not offering much aid in other categories (zero home runs, one steal, seven runs and three RBI). Even so, Williamson's slick fielding and ability to hit for contact may be enough for him to stick around in a near-everyday role in the Tampa Bay middle infield.

The Orioles placed Enns on the 15-day injured list Monday with a left foot infection.

The injury shouldn't require Enns to miss more than the minimum 15 days. Taking Enns' spot on the roster will be Brandon Young, who was called up from Triple-A Norfolk to serve as the Orioles' starting pitcher in Monday's game versus the White Sox.

Young will be the starting pitcher for Monday's game against the White Sox, filling in for the injured Zach Eflin (elbow). The right-hander really struggled in 12 starts for the Orioles in 2025, finishing with a 6.24 ERA and 47:22 K:BB over 57.2 innings. Young could earn an additional start this weekend against the Giants if he pitches well, though Dean Kremer is a likelier option to fill that slot.

McArthur (elbow) is expected to resume a throwing program Monday, MLB.com reports.

McArthur has yet to pitch in a game since he underwent surgery following the 2024 season to address an olecranon fracture in his right elbow. He required another procedure last July to remove screws from his elbow and was expected to be ready to go for the start of spring training, but he needed to be shut down again after experiencing inflammation in the elbow. The Royals have characterized McArthur's setback as minor, and though he'll start throwing again this week, he's expected to be eased along slowly in his rehab program. The reliever appears unlikely to be ready to return from the injured list until at least May.

Kolek (oblique) threw three innings and 49 pitches Thursday during a simulated game at extended spring training, MLB.com reports.

Kolek is in the process of building back up after suffering a Grade 1 left oblique strain in late February and missing the remainder of the Cactus League. The 28-year-old remains in Arizona but could soon report to an affiliate to begin what will likely be an extended minor-league rehab assignment. Kolek isn't projected to return from the Royals' injured list until late April or early May.

The Royals reinstated Massey (calf) from the 10-day injured list Monday.

Kansas City optioned Nick Loftin to Triple-A Omaha to clear room on the 26-man active roster for Massey, who was shelved to begin the season after suffering a mild left calf strain in early March during spring training. Massey proved his health in a three-game rehab stint with Omaha last week, during which he went 3-for-12 with a home run. He'll likely have to settle for a utility role with Kansas City and could struggle to see regular at-bats while the Royals have all of their key position players available.

The Royals optioned Loftin to Triple-A Omaha on Monday.

Loftin will cede his spot on the 26-man active roster to Michael Massey (calf), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. The 27-year-old utility player had appeared in four of the Royals' first nine games, going 2-for-9 with a double, two walks and three runs.

Brubaker allowed one hit and one walk in one scoreless inning during Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Mets.

Brubaker gave up a single and issued a walk but was able to escape the ninth inning without surrendering a run, throwing 12 of his 19 pitches for strikes. Aside from a lackluster performance during Friday's loss to the Mets, the right-hander has had a respectable start to the season. He has allowed three runs, all of which came Friday, along with seven hits and four walks while striking out five across 6.2 innings in five outings.
