Gimenez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the White Sox.

Lawlar was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with a fracture in his right wrist and is expected to be sidelined 6-to-8 weeks, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

The 23-year-old's initial X-Rays came back negative after being hit by a pitch Thursday, but he underwent a CT scan Friday that revealed a fracture that will sideline him into at least mid-May. Jorge Barrosa and Tim Tawa figure to see a bump in playing time while Lawlar is sidelined.

Contreras went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's 5-2 win over the Padres.

Contreras hit what proved to be the game-winning home run off Michael King in the sixth inning. The veteran has gone just 4-for-23 to start the year but appears to be finding his groove, hitting safely in each of the past three games. He's tallied 20-plus homers in six of his 10 major-league seasons, including four of the past five, and is coming off a 2025 campaign in which he posted a career-best 80 RBI.

Burke did not factor into the decision in Friday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Blue Jays, allowing one run on four hits and no walks with seven strikeouts over six innings.

Burke entered in the second inning and allowed a run before settling in with five scoreless frames. He generated an impressive 15 swinging strikes on 85 pitches, including nine on his fastball. The 26-year-old has yielded four runs through two appearances (one start) to open the season while posting a strong 12:1 K:BB across 10 innings. If he draws a start next week, it would likely come at home against the Orioles.

Cease did not factor into the decision in Friday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the White Sox, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts over 4.1 innings.

Cease allowed a run via his own error in the first inning and two more in the third. He threw just 51 of 93 pitches for strikes despite generating a whopping 16 whiffs, exiting after a one-out walk in the fifth. While the 30-year-old is no stranger to inconsistency, it was an obvious step back from his 12-strikeout debut with the Blue Jays on Saturday. He's slated for a tough home matchup against the Dodgers next week.

Hoffman (1-1) blew a save and took the extra-inning loss against the White Sox on Friday, allowing two unearned runs on two hits and no walks with one strikeout while recording two outs in the 10th inning.

Hoffman entered the 10th inning with a 4-3 lead and recorded two outs before things unraveled. Tyler Heineman, who came in at catcher mid-inning to replace Alejandro Kirk (thumb), made an errant throw on a bunt single by Derek Hill that allowed the tying run to score. Hill then came around to score on a walkoff single by Tristan Peters. While Hoffman has allowed only one earned run and posted an 11:0 K:BB through his first five appearances this year, he's converted just one of three save chances after a tumultuous 2025 that ended with a blown save in Game 7 of the World Series.

Kirk was removed from Friday's game against the White Sox after being struck in the left thumb by a foul tip while catching, Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Kirk went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI before departing during the bottom of the 10th inning after the foul tip. The Blue Jays should provide an update in the near future, but for now, the 27-year-old backstop should be considered day-to-day.

Mayer went 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and two RBI in Friday's 5-2 win over the Padres.

Mayer doubled and scored in the third inning before adding a two-run homer in the sixth. The long ball was particularly impressive, coming in his first at-bat against a lefty this season after he went just 4-for-26 against southpaws in 2025. The 23-year-old is off to an encouraging start, going 5-for-17 with four extra-base hits and five runs scored through seven games. Entering last season as one of the game's top prospects, he still offers upside as a potential post-hype sleeper in 2026.

Horton was removed from Friday's start against the Guardians in the second inning due to right forearm discomfort.

Horton's last pitch was clocked at 93.8 mph, which is about a two-mph dip from where he usually sits. The righty immediately called for the trainer after that offering before walking off the field and into the clubhouse. Horton yielded one walk over one-plus scoreless inning before being pulled. A stint on the injured list is a very real possibility, but the Cubs will send Horton for an MRI to determine the severity.

Ortiz is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Royals.

Ortiz started five of Milwaukee's first six games but will take a seat for the series opener in Kansas City. He's batting .333 through 20 plate appearances and has two steals, three RBI and five runs but is still looking for his first extra-base hit. David Hamilton is receiving a look at shortstop Friday while batting ninth.
