Nelson (2-5) picked up the loss Wednesday, allowing seven runs on eight hits and one walk over four innings during the 8-0 loss against the Marlins. He struck out two.

Nelson was shelled as he delivered his shortest start since he gave up eight runs in one-third of an inning April 19 versus Toronto. The right-hander was hurt by home runs in the fourth inning by Owen Caissie and Kyle Stowers, as he's already served up 17 long balls this season. After quality starts in five of his previous six games, Nelson struggled with control Wednesday, hitting two batters and throwing strikes on only 53 of his 82 pitches. The 28-year-old is slated to start at home against the Angels next week.

The Dodgers will select Robinson's contract from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Robinson will return to the majors as the roster replacement for Will Smith (neck), who is set to move to the injured list. Robinson has slashed .274/.338/.466 across 80 plate appearances while spending the entire season at Triple-A, though he isn't likely to receive many reps in the big leagues while Dalton Rushing works as the primary catcher.

The Dodgers will place Smith (neck) on the 10-day injured list Thursday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

After sitting him down for four straight games because of neck soreness, the Dodgers have officially decided to send Smith to the injured list. Manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that the 31-year-old backstop is progressing but has missed too much time to return without a ramp-up period. He'll be eligible to return to the Dodgers' lineup June 19; meanwhile, Dalton Rushing will take over as Los Angeles' primary catcher, and Chuckie Robinson will come up from Triple-A Oklahoma City to provide depth.

Gusto gave up no runs on three hits and one walk while striking out four over four innings during the win against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday. He did not factor in the decision.

After working as a traditional starter at Triple-A prior to his call-up last Tuesday, Gusto delivered his longest outing in the majors this season Wednesday. The right-hander suffered his first loss of 2026 during his previous start while serving up three runs across two innings while working as more of an opener, but he pitched well versus Arizona and threw 45 of his 66 pitches for strikes as he continues to get stretched out.

Scherzer (1-4) took the loss Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks in 3.1 innings. He struck out four.

After missing more than six weeks due to right forearm tendinitis and left ankle inflammation, Scherzer didn't have his best stuff in his return Wednesday, although he did record his 3,500th career strikeout when he fanned the first batter he faced, Kyle Schwarber. The 41-year-old right-hander has made it through four innings just once through six starts so far this year, failing to collect more than four punchouts in any outing. Scherzer will take a miserable 10.23 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 14:11 K:BB over 22 innings into his next scheduled appearance in Boston.

Crochet said Wednesday that his lat strain "is a lot worse" than the Red Sox originally thought, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.

Crochet also said that he has "no idea" when he'll be cleared to begin throwing. The 26-year-old southpaw was diagnosed with a low-grade lat strain June 2 that was initially expected to keep him sidelined until at least July, though his latest comments suggest he could be in for even longer of a wait. He's slated to undergo further imaging later in the week, at which point the team will have a better idea of the true severity of his injury and possibly a rough timeline for his return to the rotation.

Luzardo (5-4) earned the win Wednesday against the Blue Jays, allowing one run on four hits and four walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out eight.

Although Luzardo tied a season high in walks issued, he was still able to hang in there for a strong outing overall. The 28-year-old southpaw turned in his most punchouts since his May 3 start in Miami, and he gave up fewer than three runs for the fifth time in his last six appearances. Luzardo still has an underwhelming 4.35 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 88:25 K:BB over 78.2 innings, but he's set for a favorable home matchup against Miami his next time out.

Walker went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and an additional RBI in Wednesday's 9-2 win over the Mets.

Walker extended his hitting streak to seven games and his RBI streak to five Wednesday. The 24-year-old right fielder has five multi-hit efforts during that former stretch, as well. Walker has blossomed into a five-category fantasy producer in 2026, slashing .303/.360/.566 with 17 homers, 52 RBI, 10 stolen bases and 45 runs scored over 275 plate appearances.

Pallante (7-4) earned the win Wednesday against the Mets, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out five.

Pallante kept the Mets off balance throughout the evening, inducing an impressive nine groundouts. The 27-year-old right-hander continues to be a strong source of length in the Cardinals' rotation, working at least five innings in all but one of his 13 starts so far. Pallante will try to further improve on a quality 3.88 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 56:25 K:BB over 69.2 frames in his next scheduled outing against the Padres.

Alonso went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 7-2 win over the Mariners.

Alonso broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning with a 402-foot shot off George Kirby, his 14th homer this season. After a slow start to the year, Alonso has picked things up over the past month, batting .299 with six homers and 19 RBI in his last 22 games. Overall, he's slashing .242/.321/.447 with 41 runs scored and 42 RBI through 299 plate appearances this year.
