Rodon (elbow/hamstring) hopes to throw off a mound Saturday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

The mound session would be in a controlled environment like a live batting practice session. If Rodon gets through that with no issues, he could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment next week. The veteran southpaw has been working his way back from offseason elbow surgery and hit a speed bump recently when he came down with right hamstring tightness. The hamstring issue does not seem to have set him back much, as Rodon could still be ready for his season debut before the end of April.

Pereira (ankle) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Blue Jays.

Pereira was removed from the White Sox's last game Wednesday versus the Marlins due to left ankle soreness. It's unclear whether the injury is still lingering or if manager Will Venable simply preferred Tristan Peters in right field for Chicago's home opener. Pereira has started five games in right field this season, while Peters has made six starts in total (four in center field, two in right field).

Castellanos is out of the lineup for Friday's game in Boston.

Castellanos' playing time early in his tenure with the Padres has been erratic. He did not start the first two games of the season, then started three straight and has now been back on the bench for two games in a row. Miguel Andujar is in the designated hitter spot for San Diego, and he and Castellanos are likely to continue sharing playing time in the slot.

Fermin is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Boston.

It will be Luis Campusano doing the catching. Fermin has made four starts to Campusano's three behind the plate thus far, and a similar playing time breakdown seems likely to continue.

Gorman is not in the lineup for Friday's tilt against the Tigers.

The Cardinals have faced two left-handers this season and Gorman has been on the bench both times, so he looks to be in a clear platoon. Ramon Urias will grab the start at third base and bat cleanup for St. Louis.

Pages is not in the lineup for Friday's contest in Detroit.

Ivan Herrera is getting the start at catcher, so Pages will take a seat. Pages is 3-for-15 with one home run and a 0:4 BB:K in his first five games this season.

Wetherholt is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Detroit.

Left-hander Framber Valdez is taking the mound for the Tigers, so it's a sensible spot to give the lefty-swinging Wetherholt his first day off. Thomas Saggese will cover second base for the Cardinals.

Winn (undisclosed) will start at shortstop and bat leadoff in Friday's game versus the Tigers.

Winn was involved in a car accident Wednesday prior to the Cardinals' off day Thursday, but he emerged uninjured and won't have to miss any games. The shortstop is just 4-for-25 with one stolen base and a 2:5 BB:K in his first 27 plate appearances this season.

The Red Sox placed Oviedo on the 15-day injured list Friday with a right elbow strain, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Oviedo's velocity in his first appearance out of the bullpen was down considerably, and the IL move offers an explanation. Manager Alex Cora said Friday that Oviedo has undergone X-rays and an MRI, and those results would be compared to previous imaging, per Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston.

Wiemer is absent from the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers.

The scorching-hot Wiemer will get a day off after starting each of the previous four contests. Daylen Lile, Jacob Young and James Wood will form the Nationals' outfield trio in the team's home opener.
