Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Goes deep in win

Perez went 1-for-3 with two walks and a solo home run in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Guardians.

Perez went deep in the first inning against Cleveland starter Parker Messick, giving him 13 long balls for the season. The 25-year-old outfielder came into the contest mired in a slump, as he was batting just .079 across his previous 10 games. The Tigers will need Perez to heat up over the weekend to increase their odds at winning the AL Central.

Tigers' Jahmai Jones: Delivers leadoff home run

Jones went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Guardians.

Jones now has seven home runs this season, with all of them coming against southpaws. The outfielder also has a robust .954 OPS in those matchups, compared to a .797 OPS in a smaller sample against righties.

Tigers' Brant Hurter: Earns win in relief

Hurter (4-3) worked around a hit to toss 1.1 scoreless innings of relief and earn the win Thursday against the Guardians. He struck out two.

Detroit starter Troy Melton only covered 3.2 innings before Hurter came on and worked through the fifth in a critical game that saw the Tigers tie the Guardians atop the AL Central. The lefty logged his 12th game without allowing an earned run in his last 13 appearances, and he now has a sparkling 2.47 ERA for the season. Hurter has also struck out 66 batters in 62 innings this year, making him one of the top weapons in Detroit's bullpen for the second straight season.

Mariners' Mitch Garver: Added to Thursday's lineup

Garver will start at catcher and hit eighth in Thursday's game against the Rockies.

Rivas was scratched from Thursday's lineup against the Rockies for an undisclosed reason.

  • Bryan Woo SP | SEA

Mariners' Bryan Woo: Plays catch Thursday

Woo (pectoral) played light catch in the outfield prior to Thursday's game against the Rockies, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.

Woo was originally slated to start Thursday, but he was instead limited to light throwing. The team didn't release an official update on his status, and he is still considered day-to-day. Per Daniel Kramer of MLB.com, Woo's regular season is likely over, and he is targeting Game 2 of the ALDS for a return to the mound.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Logs four more hits Thursday

Langeliers went 4-for-5 with a double and a run scored during the Athletics' 11-5 loss to the Astros on Thursday.

Langeliers' efforts over his last two games has improved his season-long batting average to .271 over 514 plate appearances, and his stats since the All-Star break have been especially impressive, as he's batting .319/.360/.646 with 19 home runs and 39 RBI over 55 games. The 27-year-old catcher will look to end the 2025 season on a high note during the Athletics' three-game weekend home series against the Royals.

  • Nick Kurtz 1B | ATH

Athletics' Nick Kurtz: Slogs two homers vs. Astros

Kurtz went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI during the Athletics' 11-5 loss to the Astros.

  • J.T. Ginn SP | ATH

Athletics' J.T. Ginn: Rocked for seven runs in loss

Ginn (4-7) took the loss against the Astros on Thursday, allowing seven runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four across 3.2 innings.

It was a rough final outing of the season for Ginn, who gave up five runs through the first two innings before yielding two more runs in the fourth. He managed to generate 13 whiffs on 81 pitches (47 strikes), but the seven runs he gave up were his most of the season -- a disappointing end to the 2025 campaign after he entered Thursday's contest having yielded two earned runs or fewer in each of his prior three starts. With the Athletics eliminated from playoff contention, Ginn will end the season with a 5.08 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 99:31 K:BB across 90.1 innings.
