  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Tigers' Javier Baez: Activated, starting Monday

The Tigers reinstated Baez (back) from the 10-day injured list Monday. He'll start at shortstop and bat seventh in the Tigers' series opener versus the Guardians.

Detroit optioned infielder Ryan Kreidler to Triple-A Toledo to clear room on the 26-man active roster for Baez, who missed a month of action while recovering from lumbar spine inflammation. Baez proved his health while playing in rehab games with Toledo on four consecutive days last week and will immediately step back into an everyday role in the middle infield for Detroit. Before landing on the shelf, Baez had been among baseball's least productive regulars, accruing a .183/.209/.247 slash line with one home run and six stolen bases over 53 games. Despite his reputation and past production, the 31-year-old looks to be little more than an accumulator -- and a low-end one, at that -- rather than a true fantasy asset at this stage of his career.

  • Parker Meadows CF | DET

Tigers' Parker Meadows: Lands on IL with strained hamstring

The Tigers placed Meadows on the 10-day injured list Monday with a right hamstring strain.

The timing is unfortunate for Meadows, who had just been recalled from Triple-A Toledo and went 4-for-11 with one home run and one stolen base in three games since rejoining the big club. He will be eligible for activation following the All-Star break, but it's too soon to know whether he'll have a chance to be back at that time.

  • Chad Kuhl RP | ATL

White Sox's Chad Kuhl: Works in long relief Thursday

Kuhl tossed 4.1 innings out of the bullpen in Thursday's 8-4 loss to the Guardians, striking out one batter while giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and four walks.

In his previous appearance June 27, Kuhl made his first start of the season with the White Sox, working three scoreless innings in a no-decision against Atlanta. Kuhl was merely getting a spot start amid a busy portion of the White Sox's schedule, as he returned to a mop-up role out of the bullpen a week later. With the Chicago rotation at full strength with the exception of Mike Clevinger (elbow) -- who appears close to a return from the injured list -- Kuhl isn't expected to get any chances to start again in the near future.

  • Tyler Freeman RF | COL

Guardians' Tyler Freeman: Stuck in part-time role

Freeman is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Tigers.

Though he seemed primed for steadier playing time after Will Brennan (rib cage) was placed on the injured list June 27, Freeman instead looks to be stuck in a part-time role in the Cleveland outfield. He'll hit the bench for the fourth time in six games, with recent call-up Angel Martinez having seemingly surpassed Freeman as a priority in the lineup. Martinez will cover center field Monday in what will be his fifth consecutive start.

  • Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Resumes workouts

Carpenter (back) did some light jogging and played light catch on the field Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Carpenter appears to have resumed light baseball activities for the first time since experiencing a setback last week in his recovery from lumbar spine inflammation. The 26-year-old has been on the injured list since late May and is without a clear timetable for a return.

  • Akil Baddoo LF | MIL

Tigers' Akil Baddoo: Expected to rejoin roster

Baddoo is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Toledo prior to Monday's game against the Guardians, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

He was demoted last week in favor of Parker Meadows, but Baddoo now appears likely to rejoin the active roster as a replacement for Meadows, who is set to land on the 10-day injured list with a hamstring strain. Baddoo has turned in a .582 OPS over 62 plate appearances in the big leagues this season.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Tigers' Javier Baez: Activation expected Monday

Baez (back) has joined the Tigers at Comerica Park and is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list prior to Monday's game versus the Guardians, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Baez recently played four rehab games with Triple-A Toledo, going 4-for-12 with a home run. The veteran shortstop has been sidelined since mid-June with lumbar spine inflammation and had turned in an ugly .183/.209/.247 batting line over 196 plate appearances prior to landing on the IL.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ATL

Twins' Carlos Santana: Receiving breather Monday

Santana is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox.

Jose Miranda will pick up the start at first base while Santana rests for the series opener in Chicago. Santana had started all three games of the Twins' weekend series with the Astros, going 3-for-11 with a double, a walk, a run and an RBI.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Twins' Carlos Correa: Good to go Monday

Correa (finger) will start at shortstop and bat second in Monday's game against the White Sox.

Correa was lifted in the first inning of Sunday's 3-2 win over the Astros after he was hit on his right hand by a pitch in his lone at-bat of the day. Fortunately, X-rays cleared Correa of any structural damage, with the Twins labeling his injury as a finger contusion. The injury apparently isn't inhibiting Correa in batting practice Monday, so he'll be ready to go as the Twins kick off a six-game week to close out their pre-All-Star-break schedule.

  • White Sox's Steven Wilson: Sent to Triple-A

The White Sox optioned Wilson to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday.

Wilson holds a 3.46 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 26 relief innings this season, but he's also been wild with 17 walks, resulting in a 5.36 FIP. Jordan Leasure was called up from Charlotte to take Wilson's spot in Chicago's bullpen.
