The Athletics optioned Maldonado to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.

The transaction clears a spot on the 26-man active roster for J.T. Ginn (elbow), who will return from the injured list to start Monday's game against the Angels. Maldonado was called up Friday and allowed two runs on three hits while striking out two during his lone one-inning appearance out of the Athletics bullpen. He'll return to Triple-A, where he's posted a 0.73 ERA, 0.66 WHIP and 17:2 K:BB across 12.1 innings.

The Athletics activated Ginn (elbow) off the 15-day injured list ahead of his start against the Angels on Monday.

Ginn has fully progressed in his recovery from right elbow inflammation, which caused him to be placed on the 15-day IL in late April. He tossed 3.1 scoreless innings in his lone rehab game with Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, and the 25-year-old right-hander will be on a 85-to-90 pitch count in his return to the majors Monday, per Jessica Kleinschmidt of Baseball America.

Red Sox bench coach Ramon Vazquez said Monday that Campbell is healthy and expected back in the lineup Tuesday against the Mets, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Campbell is out of the lineup for a second straight day Monday. Vazquez indicated that it's a "reset" for Campbell, who is hitting only .085/.104/.149 in May. The days off will also allow Campbell to put in more pregame work at first base, where the rookie has been taking reps as the Red Sox consider him as a replacement at that position for the injured Triston Casas (knee).

Rays manager Kevin Cash said Monday that Kim (shoulder) could begin participating in the rookie-level Florida Complex League by the end of the week, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.

Kim remains on the 60-day injured list and is still waiting to make his Rays debut after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder last October, but he seems to be approaching the finish line in a long recovery process. According to Bass, Kim was on the field prior to Monday's game against the Astros and was taking grounders in the middle infield and making throws to first base at what appeared to be full velocity. Cash added that Kim will take live batting practice and see more involvement in defensive work as the weeks rolls along, and if all goes well, the 29-year-old will take part in his first game action in the minors. Kim is expected to be in line for a brief stay in the FCL before joining up with a higher-level minor-league affiliate as soon as next week.

Castro (knee) is starting at second base and batting ninth against the Guardians on Monday.

Castro will return to the Twins' lineup for Monday's series opener after missing the last two games due to a right knee contusion. He has gone 8-for-32 (.250) with one steal, eight runs scored and a solo homer in the 10 games since being activated from the 10-day injured list May 5.

Rutschman is not in the Orioles' starting lineup against the Brewers on Monday.

Maverick Handley will draw the start at catcher and bat ninth while Rutschman rests. Rutschman has struggled at the plate since the beginning of May, slashing .185/.241/.296 with two RBI over a 15-game stretch.

Wallner (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Wallner landed on the 10-day injured list April 17 due to a Grade 3 left hamstring strain. He progressed enough in his recovery to resume running in early May, and he's ready to take the next step in his rehab program by playing in games at Triple-A. Given how long he's been out, Wallner will likely need multiple games in the minors to get his timing back at the plate before the Twins activate him. Before he was shut down with the injury, Wallner slashed .263/.373/3474 with one home run and three RBI over 67 plate appearances.

McDermott was added to the Orioles' taxi squad Monday and is expected to start Tuesday's game in Milwaukee, Danielle Allentuck of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

McDermott showed flashes in a spot start last week against the Twins, striking out five while yielding four runs over three innings. He missed the first month of the season with a lat injury and hasn't thrown more than 65 pitches in any outing, so McDermott is unlikely to go deep into Tuesday's start unless he's efficient.

The Astros added Walter to their taxi squad Monday and could call him from Triple-A Sugar Land to start Tuesday's game against the Rays in Tampa, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Walter has been sharp with Sugar Land in 2025, posting a 2.27 ERA and 34:7 K:BB over 35.2 innings covering five starts and four relief appearances. The southpaw's lone previous big-league action came back in 2023, when he turned in a 6.26 ERA over nine relief appearances with the Red Sox. If Walter does in fact get called up to start Tuesday, he could be sent back down to Sugar Land after the game.

The Rangers designated Ornelas for assignment Monday.

He'll give up his spot on the 40-man roster to utility man Michael Helman, whom the Rangers claimed off waivers from the Pirates. Ornelas had seen big-league action with Texas in three straight seasons but never received a look in an everyday role and instead served as a utility infielder. The 24-year-old is a capable defender at multiple infield spots, but he produced a .204/.339/.235 slash line over 121 plate appearances at Triple-A Round Rock this season and wouldn't profile as an interesting fantasy option if he were to resurface in the majors with another club.
