Martinez isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Minnesota.

Martinez will take a seat Saturday after going 0-for-7 with three strikeouts across his previous two games. Daniel Schneemann will take over as Cleveland's center fielder and bat second while Martinez rests.

Manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Houck (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Houck has been on the injured list since May with a right elbow strain, and after suffering a setback during his most recent rehab start July 9, he'll now elect to go under the knife to address the injury. The right-hander will close the book on 2025 with an 8.04 ERA and 1.69 WHIP through 43.2 innings, and because his procedure will happen late in the 2025 season, he likely won't be ready to return to a big-league mound until 2027.

The Guardians optioned Herrin to Triple-A Columbus on Saturday.

The 28-year-old southpaw will head back to the minors after less than a week with the Guardians to make room for Carlos Hernandez, who was claimed off waivers from Detroit on Thursday. Herrin carries a 4.06 ERA and 1.55 WHIP through 31 innings with Cleveland this season and could very well rejoin the big-league squad later this summer if/when the Guardians need bullpen help.

The Guardians optioned Rodriguez to Triple-A Columbus on Saturday.

Rodriguez will end up back on the roster at Columbus following C.J. Kayfus' promotion from Triple-A. Rodriguez has slashed .324/.408/.494 in 46 games with the Clippers, and if he recaptures his swing upon returning to the minors, he may find himself back in Cleveland before the end of the year.

The Guardians recalled Hernandez from Triple-A Columbus on Saturday.

Hernandez owns a 6.69 ERA and 1.79 WHIP this year through 36.1 innings between the Tigers and Phillies. After being claimed by the Guardians on Thursday, the 28-year-old will replace Tim Herrin in Cleveland's bullpen and will most likely be limited to low-leverage situations.

The Guardians selected Kayfus' contract from Triple-A Columbus on Saturday.

After turning in an .893 OPS through 289 plate appearances in Triple-A, the 23-year-old Kayfus will now reach the big leagues for the first time in his young career. Capable of fielding first base and the corner outfield positions, Kayfus will likely see most of his playing time in the outfield, replacing Daniel Schneemann as Cleveland's primary right fielder against right-handed starters. Johnathan Rodriguez was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Povich (hip) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Monday's game against the Phillies in Philadelphia, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Povich landed on the IL in mid-June with hip inflammation and made one rehab start in late June before being shut down with additional soreness. Since restarting his assignment July 13, the 25-year-old has posted a 3.38 ERA and 0.94 WHIP through 16 innings while striking out 18 batters across four starts between High-A Aberdeen and Triple-A Norfolk. He built up to 86 pitches during his most recent minor-league outing Tuesday, which could allow him to avoid workload restrictions during his first start back in the big leagues.

Martin isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Guardians.

Martin will get a chance to catch his breath Saturday after going 3-for-5 during his season debut in Friday's loss. DaShawn Keirsey will fill in as the Twins' center fielder and bat ninth.

The Royals returned Massey (wrist) from his rehab assignment Saturday.

The Royals haven't activated Massey despite returning him from his rehab assignment, which could suggest that he suffered another setback. The 27-year-old initially landed on the IL in June with a sprained left ankle, but a hairline fracture in his right wrist has extended his time on the shelf.

The Red Sox optioned Criswell to Triple-A Worcester on Saturday.

Criswell fired seven innings of one-run ball Friday against the Astros, but he'll end up as the roster casualty necessary to make room for Dustin May in Boston's rotation. Criswell sports a 3.57 ERA through 17.2 innings with the Red Sox this season and would likely be the next man up if any of Boston's starters need to miss time down the stretch.
