  • Jazz Chisholm 2B | NYY

Yankees' Jazz Chisholm: Continues power surge

Chisholm went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, an additional run and a walk in a 10-5 win against Washington on Monday.

Chisholm hit one of three Yankees homers in the victory, slugging a two-run shot to right field in the fifth inning. The veteran infielder has gone deep three times and driven in six runs over his past two contests. That's a continuation of a recent power (and speed) surge by Chisholm -- over his past 21 games, he's slugged seven homers and stolen eight bags while recording 16 runs and 15 RBI.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Tigers' Alex Cobb: Lifted from rehab assignment

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Tuesday that Cobb (hips) has been pulled off his rehab assignment and will be shut down for a week before he resumes pitching in minor-league games, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Cobb doesn't appear to have experienced a setback in his recovery from his hip injuries. Instead, pulling him off the assignment will allow the Tigers to delay a decision on activating the pitcher from the 60-day injured list, as his 30-day rehab window was about to end. Cobb has made six rehab appearances since restarting his rehab assignment July 29 and has pitched well, posting a 2.03 ERA and 17:7 K:BB over 13.1 innings between Toledo and High-A Lansing. The Tigers are considering Cobb for a multi-inning relief role once he returns from the IL.

  • Juan Valera SP | BOS

Red Sox's Juan Valera: Closing in on return

Valera (elbow) recently resumed throwing live batting practice and is expected to return from High-A Greenville's 60-day injured list before the end of the season, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

According to Speier, Valera's fastball has been clocked at 98-to-99 miles per hour during his most recent live sessions, so he looks to be close to fully recovered from the sore elbow that has kept him out of action since late May. Prior to landing on the IL, Valera posted a 5.40 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 37:9 K:BB in 33.1 innings over eight starts with Greenville.

  • Nathan Lukes RF | TOR

Blue Jays' Nathan Lukes: Productive in Monday's win

Lukes went 2-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI in Monday's win over the Twins.

After a sluggish start to August, Lukes is beginning to build some momentum again at the plate. Over the last seven games, the 31-year-old is batting .273 (6-for-22) with three doubles, a steal, three runs and four RBI. Lukes continues to hold down a strong-side platoon role while bouncing between the outfield corners, but the Blue Jays have options to replace him if his offense continues to face -- since the All-Star break, he's slashing just .214/.262/.419.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Swats 11th homer

Kirk went 1-for-2 with two walks, a two-run home run and a second run scored in Monday's win over the Twins.

The backstop took Joe Ryan deep to cap a four-run first inning for the Blue Jays, en route to a 10-4 romp. Kirk has found his power stroke in August, homering four times in his last eight games with 11 RBI. With a month left to go in the season, the 26-year-old has 11 home runs and 59 RBI, as he closes in on new career highs in both categories -- he launched 14 long balls with 63 RBI in 2022.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Tigers' Alex Cobb: May need one final rehab appearance

Cobb (hips) could make one more rehab appearance for Triple-A Toledo before being activated from the 60-day injured list and slotting into Detroit's bullpen, MLB.com reports.

Cobb has now made a total of nine rehab appearances, with each of his last three outings coming with Toledo. He's nearing the end of his 30-day rehab window, so the Tigers will need to make a decision on what to do with the veteran. Cobb recently shifted to a relief role with Toledo after previously getting built back up as a starter, and manager A.J. Hinch said the team wants to keep him "stretched out to 30, 40, 50 pitches." The righty will likely serve as a long reliever once he's activated, giving Detroit some pitching depth for the stretch run.

  • Parker Meadows CF | DET

Tigers' Parker Meadows: Nearing rehab assignment

Meadows (quadriceps) will undergo a running test over the next few days and could begin a rehab assignment after that if he checks out well, MLB.com reports.

Meadows has been running, hitting and throwing regularly as he recovers from a right quad strain, and he now appears set to advance to the next stage. If the 25-year-old looks good during the running evaluation, he could head out on a brief minor-league rehab assignment before returning from the injured list in early September. Meadows has been out since July 28 and will likely slot in as Detroit's primary center fielder when he's back, at least against right-handed pitching.

  • Riley Greene LF | DET

Tigers' Riley Greene: Two hits, stolen base in loss

Greene went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 8-3 loss to the Athletics.

Greene extended his hitting streak to four games and also picked up a rare stolen base, as it was just his second of the season in three attempts. While he doesn't run a ton, the 24-year-old outfielder has still put together an outstanding fantasy campaign with a team-high 31 home runs and 95 RBI to go along with an .834 OPS, which would be a new career best for the budding star.

  • Roman Anthony OF | BOS

Red Sox's Roman Anthony: Gets started early Monday

Anthony went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 4-3 win over the Orioles.

Anthony swatted a leadoff homer and put himself into the franchise's record books again, this time as the youngest player in team history to hit a leadoff home run. He later singled and scored on Jarren Duran's three-run shot in fifth. Since a chilly 2-for-27 start to his MLB career, Anthony has adjusted to big-league pitching and has slashed .312/.423/.482 over the next 55 games.

  • Red Sox's Garrett Whitlock: Pitches into/out of trouble

Whitlock allowed one hit and struck out three over one scoreless inning to earn his 20th hold in Monday's 4-3 win over Baltimore.

Whitlock entered a one-run game to open the eighth inning and ceded a leadoff double to Gunnar Henderson before buckling down to strike out the next three hitters. The right-hander's having a strong second half, allowing just one earned run and three walks while striking out 17 over 15.1 innings (0.59 ERA, 0.85 WHIP) since the All-Star break.
