Alvarez is slated to start Saturday's game against the Reds at Nationals Park.

After being called up from Triple-A Rochester on Monday, Alvarez will wind up getting a two-start week. The 27-year-old southpaw delivered a quality start Monday against the Phillies with two earned runs allowed over 6.1 innings, and he's compiled a 3.94 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 63:31 K:BB over 64 innings through his first 16 appearances (eight starts) with Washington. Alvarez should have a good chance at sticking around in the rotation spot for the rest of the season after the Nationals designated right-hander Zack Littell for assignment earlier in the week.

Stock is listed as the Mets' probable starting pitcher for Saturday's game in Pittsburgh.

The 36-year-old righty will be awarded another turn through the rotation after a solid showing last Sunday, when he held the Marlins to one run on three hits and no walks while striking out four over five innings in his first big-league start since 2021. The Mets thinned their starting depth by dealing away Clay Holmes (fibula) and Freddy Peralta at the trade deadline, and with prospects Jonah Tong and Jack Wenninger struggling of late at Triple-A Syracuse, Stock doesn't appear to be facing any imminent threats for his spot in the rotation.

Perales is a pitcher the Nationals believe is nearly ready to make his big-league debut, Spencer Nusbaum of The Athletic reports.

Acquired from Boston in the offseason, Perales had a bumpy start to the season after completing his recovery from Tommy John surgery, but over his last eight starts for Triple-A Rochester he's put together a 2.79 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 41:25 K:BB in 38.2 innings. The 23-year-old right-hander is still working to improve his control and his stamina, but Perales has elite raw stuff headlined by a four-seamer that averaged 98.5 mph and a split-finger pitch that's generated a 42.2 percent whiff rate in 2026. A late-season stint with the Nationals would put Perales on track to win a spot in the rotation next spring.

Early (elbow) will not be sent for an MRI after he felt some minor forearm tightness during a live batting practice session Tuesday, Spencer Nusbaum of The Athletic reports.

Manager Blake Butera indicated the organization wasn't overly concerned about Early's health, but the setback might have been the only excuse the Nationals needed to rule the southpaw out from pitching in the majors again this season. Acquired in the Curtis Mead (wrist) deal, Early had a 3.44 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 93:34 K:BB through 91.2 innings for the Red Sox earlier this year. He last saw game action June 30 before landing on the IL with elbow inflammation.

Tiedemann (elbow/neck) walked one in a scoreless inning of relief for Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday.

Making his first appearance of the season for the Bisons, Tiedemann averaged 96.7 mph with his fastball, per Jesse Borek of MLB.com. The 23-year-old southpaw is expected to remain in the bullpen for the remainder of 2026, but the Blue Jays haven't ruled out trying him in the rotation again next season.

Perry (concussion) tossed three scoreless, no-hit innings for Double-A New Hampshire on Thursday, walking one batter and striking out four.

The 22-year-old right-hander had last pitched July 19, when he took a comebacker off the side of his head, but after clearing the concussion protocol Perry didn't skip a beat. The Blue Jays' top pitching prospect is climbing the ladder in a hurry after returning from Tommy John surgery that cost him all of 2025 -- he began the year at Single-A Dunedin, and across three levels of the minors he's delivered a 2.29 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 89:20 K:BB in just 59 innings. Toronto may not want to push him too much farther this season, but Perry may be on track for a 2027 big-league debut if he continues to dominate in the high minors.

The Mets outrighted Conley to Double-A Binghamton on Thursday.

Conley didn't make an appearance for the Mets before being removed from their 40-man roster. He will remain in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed.

Mahle will make his Atlanta debut with a start Friday against the Yankees in New York.

Acquired from the Giants over the weekend, Mahle will slot into the back end of the Atlanta rotation as a replacement for Reynaldo Lopez (knee), who landed on the injured list Sunday. Mahle took advantage of a favorable home park in San Francisco by delivering a 2.65 ERA and 1.14 WHIP over nine starts, but those ratios swelled to a 8.04 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in nine starts away from Oracle Park. The right-hander profiles as a high-risk fantasy option Friday at Yankee Stadium, which is notoriously friendly for left-handed power hitters like Ben Rice, Jazz Chisholm and Luis Garcia.

The Twins plan to recall Matthews from Triple-A St. Paul to start Friday's game against the Brewers in Milwaukee, Bobby Nightengale of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.

The 26-year-old will be entering the rotation as a replacement for Joe Ryan, who is headed to the injured list after he was diagnosed Thursday with a mild left glute strain. Matthews was demoted to Triple-A last weekend after losing his rotation spot to the newly acquired Dean Kremer, and he owns a 5.22 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 69:26 K:BB in 81 innings over 14 starts this year for Minnesota.

Castillo allowed five runs on six hits and a walk over four innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Red Sox. He struck out five.

After holding Boston hitless through his first two innings, Castillo gave up a two-run homer to Connor Wong in the third before surrendering three runs in the fourth to tie the game at 5-5. It's certainly wasn't the ideal White Sox debut for Castillo, who struggled to a 6.35 ERA across 17 innings in his final three starts with the Mariners before being shipped east at the trade deadline. Through 103.2 innings this year, his ERA sits at 5.30 -- he hasn't finished a season with an ERA above 4.00 since 2018, his first full year in the majors. Castillo will look to turn things around his next time out, tentatively lined up to come at home against the Reds, the team he began his career with in 2017.
