Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that Sheehan "might be" available to work in relief behind right-hander Shohei Ohtani in Wednesday's game against the Reds, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

For the first time since Ohtani made his 2025 debut as a pitcher June 16, the Dodgers aren't committed to having another hurler piggyback him, but the two-way player will still be limited to four innings in his seventh start of the season while he continues to gradually increase his workload following his second career elbow surgery in September 2023. Sheehan had started in his previous two appearances with the Dodgers, but with Blake Snell (shoulder) likely to return from the 60-day injured list this weekend to give the team six healthy starters, Sheehan looks set to move to the bullpen for the time being. The right-hander will be available on four days' rest and should be capable of covering multiple innings behind Ohtani, if needed.

The Mariners traded Martinez to the Pirates on Wednesday in exchange for Caleb Ferguson, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.

Martinez has struggled this season upon being promoted to Single-A, logging a 6.18 ERA and 1.62 WHIP alongside a 60:38 K:BB through 62.2 innings. That being said, the 19-year-old righty is trending in the right direction after giving up just six earned runs in 23.1 frames over his last five starts, but he clearly still has a lot of work to do before earning a promotion to High-A, let alone the majors.

The Giants acquired Tidwell, outfielder Drew Gilbert and right-hander Jose Butto from the Mets on Wednesday in exchange for right-hander Tyler Rogers, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Tidwell reached the big leagues for the first time earlier this season and made four appearances (two starts) for the Mets while posting a 9.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP in 15 innings. With the Mets getting the likes of Kodai Senga, Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea back from the injured list in recent weeks, Tidwell became buried on the organization's depth chart, but he should have a clearer path to contributing at the big-league level with San Francisco. The 24-year-old right-hander is expected to begin his time in his new organization in the rotation at Triple-A Sacramento.

Triple-A Columbus placed Nikhazy on the 7-day injured list Wednesday due to a left elbow impingement.

It's not clear how long Nikhazy's elbow has been bothering him, but he's allowed 15 runs (14 earned) over 10.1 innings in his three starts with Columbus this month. The left-hander is without a clear timeline to return to action for the Triple-A club.

Wells (elbow) threw two perfect innings in Wednesday's rehab start for Double-A Chesapeake. He struck out one.

Wells made quick work of the opposition, smoothly sailing through two frames while tossing 15 of his 22 pitches for strikes. Tuesday marked the 30-year-old right-hander's first game action since April of last year, and he's entering the final stages of his recovery from UCL surgery. Wells will almost certainly require several more rehab outings before becoming an option for Baltimore's pitching staff.

Gusto is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Nationals in Houston.

Gusto will pick up a second straight start, despite being roughed up for eight earned runs in 3.1 innings in his return to the rotation last week against the Athletics following three consecutive relief appearances. The right-hander could be headed back to the bullpen in short order, as the Astros could bring aboard another starter prior to Thursday's trade deadline, and several other injured rotation candidates are in the midst of rehab assignments and could be activated within the next couple of weeks.

Perez (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Perez has been sidelined since mid-April with a left flexor strain but has made excellent progress in his rehab program and has now reached the final phase of his recovery process. Given the length of his absence, Perez is sure to require a handful of rehab starts prior to being activated from the 60-day injured list, but he could be back in the White Sox's rotation by late August if all goes well. Before landing on the shelf, Perez went 1-1 with a 3.15 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 18:11 K:BB in 20 innings.

Waldrep threw seven scoreless innings for Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out eight.

There had been speculation the 23-year-old right-hander might get called up this week to bolster Atlanta's injury-ravaged rotation, but Waldrep instead remained at Gwinnett and delivered arguably his best performance of the season. He's given up two runs or fewer in six of his last seven starts, posting a 1.99 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 36:16 K:BB over 40.2 innings during that stretch. With Atlanta out of the playoff picture and expected to be sellers at the trade deadline, the team could still promote Waldrep at some point over the final weeks of the campaign to help him get his feet wet in the majors ahead of competing for a rotation spot next spring.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that Crochet won't make his next start until Monday or Tuesday versus the Royals at Fenway Park as part of a workload-management plan, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.

Crochet had been lined up to pitch Friday's series opener versus the Astros, but the Red Sox will instead break in a spot starter or treat that game as a bullpen day in order to afford the 26-year-old lefty some extra rest. Though he's maintained excellent health throughout his first season in Boston, Crochet is in his second year as a full-time starter and missed all of 2022 and the early part of the 2023 campaign while recovering from Tommy John surgery. As such, the Red Sox are cognizant of not overextending Crochet, even though he hasn't yet shown any signs of wearing down as he closes in on surpassing his innings total from last season (146). The Red Sox haven't indicated that they plan on having Crochet skip additional turns through the rotation over the rest of the season, though that could become more of a consideration if the team fades from playoff contention.

Roupp (elbow) threw 35 pitches off flat ground Tuesday and is expected to continue pitching at the Giants' complex in Arizona while the team is on its six-game road trip, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Roupp was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Wednesday, due to right elbow inflammation. The right-hander will continue ramping up and is expected to return shortly after he's first eligible Aug. 6. Roupp may go on a rehab assignment before rejoining the Giants during their next homestand, per Rubin.
