  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Earns win in return to rotation

Hendricks (1-4) allowed one run on two hits across 5.2 innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Giants. He walked one and struck out eight.

Making his first start since May 17, Hendricks looked sharp, particularly with the season-high eight strikeouts. Since that last start and his shift to the bullpen, the veteran has pitched much better than earlier in the season. Hendricks now has a 2.70 ERA over his last 20 innings pitched, including Wednesday's start. He figures to stick in the rotation for now, and his next appearance is tentatively set for Tuesday against the Giants again, this time on the road.

  • Cardinals' Adam Kloffenstein: Headed to majors

The Cardinals will recall Kloffenstein from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Kloffenstein has spent all season with Memphis, posting a 3.97 ERA and 1.13 WHIP through 77 innings across 14 starts. Although he has been used almost exclusively as a starter throughout his minor-league career, he will likely be used as a multi-inning reliever while with St. Louis. The 23-year-old righty will be making his MLB debut whenever he gets into a game.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Headed to injured list

Manager Dave Roberts said Buehler will be placed on the injured list Wednesday due to hip discomfort, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

The right-hander was struck in the hip by a comebacker Tuesday against the Rockies, but he was also battling a hip issue prior to that incident. Buehler surrendered seven runs during Wednesday's outing and has a 5.84 ERA through eight starts this season, and the IL stint will give him a chance to reset amid the struggles. He's without an official timeline for his return but seems likely to be sidelined beyond the 15-day minumum.

  • Yonny Chirinos SP | MIA

Marlins' Yonny Chirinos: Solid in Marlins debut

Chirinos didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Cardinals, allowing two runs on eight hits over five innings. He struck out six.

Both runs against Chirinos came in the second inning where he allowed four straight hits to lead off the frame, including a Nolan Gorman homer. Otherwise, the 30-year-old right-hander was sharp in his 2024 debut, putting the Marlins in position for an eventual 4-3 victory. Chirinos pitched to a 5.40 ERA across 85 innings between Atlanta and Tampa Bay last season, though he pitched well with Triple-A Jacksonville this year, posting a 3.00 ERA over 12 starts. With Miami still dealing with a rash of injuries to their starting pitchers, Chirinos could warrant a longer look in the rotation. He's currently lined up for a road matchup with the Royals early next week.

  • Bobby Miller RP | LAD

Dodgers' Bobby Miller: Reinstated for Wednesday's start

The Dodgers activated Miller (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Wednesday against the Rockies, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Timesreports.

The right-hander has been sidelined by shoulder inflammation since mid-April, but he's ready to rejoin the big-league rotation after a four-start rehab assignment in the minors. Miller posted a 5.40 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 18:6 K:BB over 11.2 frames in three outings prior to the injury. Walker Buehler (hip) is headed to the injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Gerrit Cole SP | NYY

Yankees' Gerrit Cole: Activated ahead of start

The Yankees reinstated Cole (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

Cole has been on the injured list all season due to nerve irritation in his right elbow, but he will now officially return to the Yankees' rotation and make his season debut Wednesday against the Orioles. The 33-year-old righty was dominant during his three rehab starts, posting a minuscule 0.73 ERA while striking out 19 batters and walking none in 12.1 innings. However, he built up to only 68 pitches during his time in the minors, so he will likely be working under some sort of restriction during his return to a big-league mound. Anthony Rizzo (arm) was transferred to the 60-day IL to make room for Cole on the 40-man roster.

  • Mitch Keller SP | PIT

Pirates' Mitch Keller: Delivers seven scoreless frames

Keller allowed two hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Reds on Wednesday. He struck out seven.

Keller was locked in Wednesday, holding Cincinnati hitless until the fifth inning, ultimately turning in his second scoreless outing in his last three starts. However, Keller wouldn't factor into the decision, as the Pirates couldn't get on the board until Bryan Reynolds homered in the eighth, providing the lone run in a 1-0 victory. Keller's been excellent since the start of May, pitching to a 1.53 ERA over his last eight outings. Overall, the right-hander's 8-4 with a 3.11 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 85:24 K:BB across 15 starts (92.2 innings) this season. Keller will look to keep rolling in his next start, currently scheduled as a rematch with Cincinnati on the road.

  • Hunter Greene SP | CIN

Reds' Hunter Greene: Strikes out nine

Greene allowed just two hits over 6.1 innings in a no-decision Wednesday against the Pirates. He struck out nine.

Greene was dominant Wednesday, matching a season high with nine strikeouts while turning in his first scoreless outing since May 3. However, the right-hander was stuck with a no-decision, as the Reds couldn't break through against Mitch Keller in an eventual 1-0 loss. Still, it was an impressive performance from the 24-year-old Greene, who had struggled to a 5.60 ERA while issuing 12 walks over 17.2 innings in his previous three starts. Overall, he's 5-2 on the year with a 3.35 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 98:37 K:BB across 88.2 innings. Greene's currently scheduled for a rematch with the Pirates at home in his next start.

  • Dean Kremer SP | MIN

Orioles' Dean Kremer: Making another rehab start

Kremer (triceps) will make his next rehab start with Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

The right-hander began the rehab assignment Sunday and threw 59 pitches across 3.2 innings with Norfolk, and he'll continue building up his workload Saturday. Kremer will then be evaluated for next steps, and if all goes well, he could return from the 15-day injured list and rejoin Baltimore's rotation sometime next week.

  • Kyle Bradish SP | BAL

Orioles' Kyle Bradish: Undergoes Tommy John surgery

Orioles general manager Mike Elias announced that Bradish (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery with an internal brace Wednesday, Danielle Allentuck of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Bradish was first diagnosed with a partial UCL tear in his elbow in mid-February, and while his initial rehab was successful -- he posted a 2.75 ERA and 53:15 K:BB over 39.1 innings covering eight starts -- he suffered a setback coming out of his most recent outing last Friday. After having his elbow re-examined, Bradish made the decision to have the surgery. Elias said Wednesday that he expects Bradish to miss 12-to-18 months, leaving the right-hander's availability for the entire 2025 season in doubt.
