Gore battled through command issues, throwing just 65 of 111 pitches for strikes while recording a season-low two punchouts. Despite not having his best stuff, the southpaw has now allowed three earned runs or fewer in 15 of 18 starts this season and has completed at least five innings in all but one. He'll take a 3.11 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 131:34 K:BB across 104.1 innings into a road matchup with the Cardinals next week.

Pepiot (6-6) came away with the win against the Athletics on Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out nine across six innings.

Pepiot put the Rays in a quick 2-0 deficit after yielding solo home runs to Brent Rooker and Max Schuemann in the first and second innings, respectively. Those were the only two runs Pepiot gave up, however, and he finished his outing strong by striking out five of the last six batters he faced. It was a nice bounce-back effort for the 27-year-old right-hander, who recorded just five outs while giving up four runs in his previous start against the Orioles on June 27. Pepiot is in line to face off against the Tigers on the road next week.

High-A South Bend reinstated Gray (shoulder) from its 60-day injured list Wednesday.

Gray has received the green light to make his first appearance of the season for South Bend in Wednesday's game against Peoria after he struck out 11 and allowed one unearned run on two hits and four walks in 6.1 innings over his two rehab starts in rookie-level Arizona Complex League. The 22-year-old southpaw has had tough luck on the health front since being selected 93rd overall in the 2021 First-Year Player Draft. He missed the entire 2022 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery and was on the shelf for three months to begin this season due to a shoulder injury.

Williams (3-10) took the loss in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Tigers, allowing seven runs on nine hits and one walk with four strikeouts over three innings.

Williams endured a six-run first inning that included a pair of three-run homers and exited after 86 pitches in his shortest start of the season. The 33-year-old has now gone six straight outings without a win since beating Seattle in his lone quality start of the year on May 28. He'll carry a 6.21 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 65:21 K:BB across 82.2 innings into a road matchup with the Cardinals next week.

Gray (wrist) tossed a bullpen session Wednesday and is close to being cleared to embark on a rehab assignment, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Gray fractured his right wrist during spring training, which caused him to start the season on the 60-day injured list. He was cleared to throw off a mound in mid-June, and the 33-year-old right-hander appears to be ready to start a minor-league rehab assignment. Gray will aim for a return in late July after the All-Star break.

The Giants recalled Black from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Black has been in Triple-A all season and owns a 4.75 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP across 72 innings. He's worked almost exclusively as a starter throughout his professional career, but he'll likely be used in long relief while in San Francisco while replacing Carson Seymour in the bullpen.

Abel (2-2) took the loss in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Padres, coughing up five runs on two hits and five walks over 1.2 innings as the Phillies fell 6-4. He struck out three.

The rookie right-hander couldn't find the plate, tossing just 25 of 53 pitches for strikes before getting the hook and putting his bullpen behind the eight ball in the twin bill. Abel hadn't pitched since June 21 as a rain delay washed out his previous start, and the long layoff almost certainly contributed to his lack of sharpness. His ERA spiked from 3.47 to 5.04 as a result of this outing, and Abel will try to get back on track in his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in San Francisco.

Pivetta (9-2) picked up the win in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Phillies, allowing one run on seven hits over six innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.

A solo homer by Kyle Schwarber in the sixth inning was the only blemish on Pivetta's line. The right-hander spent the first three-plus seasons of his MLB career with Philadelphia, but he appears to have found a new gear in San Diego -- he's already one win short of his career high, and his 10 quality starts is two shy of the career-high 12 he delivered for Boston in 2022. Pivetta will take a 3.25 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 107:24 K:BB through 97 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Diamondbacks.

Tidwell is slated to work in bulk relief behind opening pitcher Huascar Brazoban in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Brewers, Manny Gomez of NJ.com reports.

Tidwell was initially listed as the Mets' scheduled starter for Game 2, but the club made the late decision to use the right-hander behind an opener following a 7-2 loss to the Brewers in the first game of the day. The rookie will be making his fourth appearance of the season for the Mets, after previously allowing 12 earned runs in 10.2 innings across two starts and one relief outing. Though he'll be taking over the rotation spot that opened up after Griffin Canning suffered a season-ending Achilles injury last week, Tidwell may be headed back to the minors after his appearance Wednesday. Lefty Sean Manaea (oblique/elbow) will make a rehab start with Double-A Binghamton on Wednesday and could be ready to return from the 60-day injured list the next time the Mets require a fifth starter.

While Holmes was able to limit the damage for the most part Wednesday, the right-hander has struggled with his command recently, issuing 14 walks over 15 innings across his last three starts. Overall, the 32-year-old Holmes is 8-4 with a 2.99 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 76:39 K:BB across 17 starts (93.1 innings). He's currently scheduled for a home matchup with the Yankees in his next outing.
