  • Jon Gray SP | TEX

Rockies' Jon Gray: Surgery set for Friday

Gray will undergo surgery Friday to repair his fractured left foot, but he's expected to have a normal offseason, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Gray has made it clear that he thinks he can have surgery without it affecting his availability for the 2020 season. He finishes the year with a 3.84 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 150:56 K:BB across 150 innings.

  • Logan Webb SP | SF

Giants' Logan Webb: Confirmed as Sunday's starter

Webb has been confirmed as Sunday's starter against the A's, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

He was an option out of the bullpen Thursday against the Cubs but was not used, so he will make his scheduled start Sunday. He was effective in his big-league debut last week, giving up one earned run while striking out seven in five innings to pick up the win against the Diamondbacks. With Shaun Anderson (blister) and Johnny Cueto (elbow) expected back fairly soon, Webb's run in the rotation may not last long.

  • Marcus Stroman SP | NYY

Mets' Marcus Stroman: Will make next start

Stroman (hamstring) said Thursday that he will make his next scheduled start Tuesday against the Cubs, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

He is not worried about the hamstring tightness he experienced in Wednesday's start and was more focused on his performance, saying, "I think I need to be better. I think I will be better." Stroman has a 4.58 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 18:10 K:BB in 19.2 innings (four starts) since getting traded to the Mets.

  • Chris Flexen RP | CHC

Mets' Chris Flexen: Recalled from Triple-A

Flexen was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday.

He has logged over two innings in three of his last five appearances at Triple-A and figures to work as a long reliever in the majors. Flexen has a career 8.15 ERA and 2.14 WHIP in 67.1 MLB innings.

  • Wes Parsons RP | CLE

Rockies' Wes Parsons: Summoned to majors

Parsons was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday.

He was claimed on waivers earlier in the week after the Braves designated him for assignment. Parsons has a 4.43 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 15 strikeouts in 20.1 career MLB innings and should assume a low-leverage relief role.

  • Kyle Freeland SP | COL

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Lands on IL with groin strain

Freeland was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a left groin strain.

He will be eligible to return on Sept. 1, but it is unclear how much time he will need to recover. The Rockies' rotation has been decimated by injuries, but perhaps Antonio Senzatela or Jeff Hoffman will be recalled to start Sunday's game in St. Louis.

  • Logan Webb SP | SF

Giants' Logan Webb: Tentatively slated to start Sunday

Webb is available in relief Thursday against the Cubs, but he will start Sunday against the Diamondbacks if he is not needed Thursday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The Giants won't use Webb unless they really need to during the day game at Wrigley Field. He was effective in his big-league debut last week, giving up one earned run while striking out seven in five innings to pick up the win against the Diamondbacks. With Shaun Anderson (blister) and Johnny Cueto (elbow) expected back fairly soon, Webb's run in the rotation may not last long.

  • Brewers' Adrian Houser: Scoops up win in solid showing

Houser improved his record to 6-5 after limiting the Cardinals to three runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out six in 5.1 innings Wednesday in the Brewers' 5-3 victory.

Houser struggled in most of his initial starting chances this season, but the right-hander seems to be hitting his stride since re-entering the rotation in late July. He's now allowed exactly one earned run in three straight starts and owns a 2.54 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 31:7 K:BB in 28.1 innings over his last five turns. Neither Brandon Woodruff (oblique) nor Jhoulys Chacin (lat) is expected back from the 10-day injured list until at least mid-September. so Houser should enjoy some decent security in the Milwaukee rotation.

  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Ugly showing in losing effort

Wainwright (9-9) was the pitcher of record Wednesday in the Cardinals' rain-shortened 5-3 loss to the Brewers, giving up five runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out two in five innings.

Wainwright put the Cardinals in a 4-0 hole in the first inning they were never able to dig out from, with Mike Moustakas' three-run home run representing the brunt of the damage. The veteran righty has been a decent innings eater for St. Louis this season but hasn't offered much relief in the ratio categories, posting a 4.51 ERA and 1.44 WHIP across 24 starts.

  • Robbie Ray SP | SD

Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Bullpen scheduled for Friday

Ray (back) will throw a bullpen session Friday, Richard Morin of the Arizona Republic reports.

Manager Torey Lovullo said Ray could rejoin the starting rotation soon if Friday's session goes without issue. The left-hander was removed from his last start Aug. 14 with what turned out to be back spasms.
