Red Sox's Chris Sale: Starting Game 1 of twin bill

Sale will start Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Tigers, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Sale will make his start a day later than scheduled after Monday's game was postponed due to inclement weather in Boston. The southpaw will look to turn things around Tuesday, as he's 0-4 with an 8.50 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 14:5 K:BB through 18 innings (four starts) this season.

  • Tigers' Spencer Turnbull: Tabbed for Game 2 of doubleheader

Turnbull will start Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Red Sox, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Turnbull will follow Matthew Boyd, who is scheduled to start the first game of Tuesday's twin bill. Through four starts this season, the 26-year-old right-hander owns a 3.43 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 10.3 K/9 across 21 innings.

  • John Means SP | KC

Orioles' John Means: Will rejoin rotation Wednesday

Means will start Wednesday against the White Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Means will rejoin the rotation for a spot start thanks to an opening created by Saturday's doubleheader. The right-hander has excelled as both a starter and reliever this season, compiling a 1.72 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 17:5 K:BB through 15.2 innings of work. Means will likely head back to the bullpen after Wednesday's outing, though he'll continue to operate in a swingman role for the Orioles.

  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Tigers' Matthew Boyd: Starting Game 1 of doubleheader

Boyd will start Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Red Sox, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.

This was expected after Boyd's scheduled start Monday was pushed back by a day due to inclement weather in Boston. The southpaw has impressed through four starts this season (2.96 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 36:7 K:BB over 24.1 innings) and will look to keep things rolling Tuesday.

Sale's scheduled start against the Tigers on Monday was postponed due to inclement weather, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Tuesday. Sale figures to start one of the two games, though the Red Sox have yet to confirm which one. The southpaw has struggled through four starts this season, going 0-4 while posting an 8.50 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 14:5 K:BB through 18 innings.

  • Shane Bieber SP | TOR

Indians' Shane Bieber: Takes first loss

Bieber (2-1) was charged with seven runs (five earned) on five hits over 2.1 innings in a loss to the Braves on Sunday. He struck out three and walked one.

Josh Donaldson accounted for most of the damage against Bieber, taking the right-hander deep in the first and second innings. Manager Terry Francona wouldn't let Bieber work out of trouble in the third, pulling him after only 65 pitches. It was a step backward, but Bieber was a top-15 starting pitcher in terms of earned 2019 value before this outing. He will look to get back on track next weekend in Houston.

  • Dylan Bundy SP | NYM

    Orioles' Dylan Bundy: Takes loss

Bundy (0-3) gave up four runs (two earned) on seven hits with one walk while striking out four over six innings in a loss to the Twins on Sunday.

An error to start the game immediately put Bundy in a difficult situation. Even with the loss, this is an encouraging start as he induced 13 swinging-strikes and did not allow a home run in his longest outing of the season. Bundy will look to build on this performance next Sunday in a rematch in Minnesota.

  • Kyle Gibson SP | BAL

Twins' Kyle Gibson: Gets first win

Gibson (1-0) struck out six and gave up two runs on five hits with no walks over six innings in a win over the Orioles on Sunday.

Gibson turned in a fine outing to win his first decision. This was easily his best start, as he induced 14 swinging strikes and 17 called strikes. The right-hander has a 1-0 record with a 6.10 ERA through four starts this season. Gibson will make his next start next Sunday in a rematch against the Orioles.

  • Tyler Glasnow SP | LAD

Rays' Tyler Glasnow: Struggles with command

Glasnow struck out five and yielded two runs on three walks and three hits in 5.1 innings in a no-decision against Boston on Sunday.

Coming into Sunday's start, Glasnow had issued just three free passes in 24 innings but matched that total against the Red Sox. He also threw just 49 of 76 pitches for strikes. Still, he owns a terrific 29:6 K:BB and 1.53 ERA in 2019. The 25-year-old righty will try to get his revenge in Boston next Saturday.
