  • Kyle Gibson SP | BAL

Twins' Kyle Gibson: Gives up six runs in loss

Gibson (7-4) gave up six runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out three through 4.1 innings, taking the loss against the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Gibson struggled mightily with his command, walking five batters and enduring a 38-pitch second inning. He threw only 49 strikes in his 94 pitches overall, and he now has a 7-4 record with a 4.18 ERA through 14 starts this season. Gibson will look to get back on track in his next start Tuesday against the Rays at Target Field.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Strikes out nine in win

Rodriguez (8-4) recorded nine strikeouts and gave up four runs on eight hits and three walks through seven innings to earn a win over the Twins on Wednesday.

Rodriguez gave up two runs in his first three innings and surrendered a pair of solo home runs in the fourth frame, but he subsequently settled down to deliver three straight scoreless innings. The left-hander has a 8-4 record with a 4.71 ERA through 15 starts this season. Rodriguez will get his next start Monday against the White Sox at Fenway Park.

  • Jesus Luzardo SP | PHI

Athletics' Jesus Luzardo: No timetable for majors

Luzardo (shoulder), who'll make his next start for Triple-A Las Vegas, will need to do more than just build up his pitch count before being considered for a promotion to the big leagues, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. "We want to make sure we get him to 100 pitches. But he's going to have to have results, he can't just go out there and pitch," manager Bob Melvin said. "If the results are there, we will look to try to get him here. I'm not going to put a timetable on it right now."

Luzardo racked up nine strikeouts and allowed an earned run over just four innings with High-A Stockton in a win over Modesto on Sunday in his most recent start, an outing in which he worked up to 52 pitches. However, as Melvin indicated, quality and quantity will both matter before Luzardo is given serious consideration for the big-league rotation. The promising southpaw struggled in his first exposure to Triple-A bats late last season, generating a 7.31 ERA and 2.00 WHIP across 16 innings over four starts.

  • White Sox's Lucas Giolito: Surrenders six earned

Giolito (10-2) allowed six earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out nine across 4.1 innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Cubs.

Giolito was doomed by the long ball, as he surrendered three home runs -- two to Willson Contreras -- including a grand slam in the first frame. Despite clearly lacking his best stuff, Giolito still generated nine strikeouts on 21 swinging strikes and also managed to work into the fifth inning. He's been excellent for the majority of the season, illustrated by the fact that he still has a 2.74 ERA and 1.02 WHIP after this shaky effort, and that he'd allowed more than one earned run only twice in his last nine starts entering Wednesday. Giolito will look to get back on track during his next start, which comes in the form of another tough matchup Monday at Boston.

  • Andrew Heaney RP | LAD

    Angels' Andrew Heaney: Loses control

Heaney allowed five earned runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two across 3.2 innings Wednesday against the Blue Jays. He did not factor into the decision.

Heaney walked at least one batter in three of the four innings he pitched, and in the remaining frame he threw a wild pitch. The majority of the damage against him came on a three-run homer by Rowdy Tellez, but Heaney was ultimately pulled after allowing a two-RBI single to Eric Sogard. Though he has an inflated 5.68 ERA through 25.1 innings, Heaney has also contributed a solid 1.14 WHIP and has 32 punchouts in five starts. He'll look to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for Tuesday against the Reds.

  • Chris Bassitt SP | BAL

Athletics' Chris Bassitt: Falls short of quality start

Bassitt (4-3) earned the win Wednesday versus the Orioles while allowing two runs on two hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out six.

Bassitt didn't allow a hit through the first five frames Wednesday, but he buckled in the sixth when the Orioles rallied for two runs on two hits and three walks. It's the third straight outing the 30-year-old has fallen one out short of a quality start, though he did receive the win this time around. Bassitt has a 3.64 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 63:27 K:BB through 64.1 innings and lines up to start Tuesday at St. Louis.

  • Blake Snell SP | LAD

Rays' Blake Snell: Falls flat versus Yankees

Snell (4-6) took the loss Wednesday against the Yankees by surrendering six runs on two hits and four walks while recording only one out. He failed to record any strikeouts.

Snell gave up a three-run home run to Gary Sanchez and then issued three walks to load the bases before exiting the game, and all three runners came around to score. The 26-year-old has eight walks and 10 runs allowed (nine earned) in his last two starts and will look to turn things around Tuesday at Minnesota.

  • Gerrit Cole SP | NYY

Astros' Gerrit Cole: Settles for no-decision

Cole recorded eight strikeouts and allowed six hits and three walks across six innings during a no-decision against the Reds on Wednesday.

For the fifth straight start, Cole allowed two earned runs or fewer, but for the third time during that stretch, he settled for a no-decision. In this outing, closer Roberto Osuna gave up the lead in the ninth. Cole is an underwhelming 6-5 with a 3.54 ERA, but his other numbers are sparkling. He has a 1.02 WHIP, .206 batting average against and 148 strikeouts in 96.2 innings this season. Cole will face the team that drafted him, the Pirates, in his next start at home Tuesday.

  • Tommy Milone SP | SEA

Mariners' Tommy Milone: Will continue to work behind opener

Milone will work as the primary pitcher Saturday against the Orioles, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Milone has pitched well behind an opener in each of his past three appearances, so he'll continue to work in that role for the time being. The southpaw owns a 2.55 ERA, 0.62 WHIP and 13:1 K:BB in three outings as a primary pitcher (17.2 innings), which is a step above his 3.60 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 19:4 K:BB in 15 innings as a starter (three starts). It remains to be seen who will serve as the opener ahead of him Saturday.

  • Rangers' Jeffrey Springs: Lands on injured list

Springs landed on the 10-day injured list with left biceps tendinitis Wednesday.

Springs owns a poor 6.23 ERA and a 1.85 WHIP in 26 innings for the Rangers this season. It's not clear how much time he's expected to miss. Joe Palumbo was recalled from Double-A Frisco in a corresponding move.
