Twins' Jose Berrios: Fans eight in win
Berrios (9-5) earned the win Thursday after holding the White Sox to three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out eight over seven innings.

Andrew Heaney RP | LAD
Angels' Andrew Heaney: Plays catch Thursday
Heaney (shoulder) took part in some light throwing Thursday, Maria Torres of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Heaney was sent to the 10-day injured list Saturday due to left shoulder inflammation. While it's positive news that he's started to throw again, he'll likely still need to toss a side session before the Angels consider activating the southpaw from the shelf. A timetable for his return has yet to be revealed.

Jose Suarez RP | ATH
Angels' Jose Suarez: Officially promoted
Suarez was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake prior to Thursday's game against the Orioles.
As expected, Suarez will be promoted to start Thursday's matchup. Taylor Ward was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Triston McKenzie SP | SD
Indians' Triston McKenzie: Status uncertain
McKenzie (back) remains on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Akron, and his status for the rest of the season is uncertain.
When McKenzie injured his back in spring training, the hope was that he would only be shut down for six weeks or so. More than four months later, there is little to suggest McKenzie is getting close to game action. As of June 21, McKenzie was still in Arizona rehabbing his back strain, per Mandy Bell of MLB.com. McKenzie missed a large chunk of last season with a forearm issue, and his prospect stock has taken a considerable hit as a result of the injuries over the past two years.

Luis Gil RP | NYY
Yankees' Luis Gil: Moves up to High-A
Gil was promoted from Low-A Charleston to High-A Tampa on Thursday, Josh Norris of Baseball America reports.
Prior to earning the promotion, Gil posted a 2.39 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 112:39 K:BB in 83 innings (17 starts) with Charleston. The young right-hander will likely finish out the year with Tampa.

Luis Severino SP | ATH
Yankees' Luis Severino: Eyeing bullpen role upon return
Severino (lat) said Wednesday that he hopes to rejoin the Yankees in September as a reliever before reclaiming a spot in the rotation in the final week of the regular season, Randy Miller of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Severino suggested after he resumed his throwing program a week and a half ago that he would be open to working out of the bullpen once cleared to return from the 60-day injured list, and the Yankees appear prepared to follow that plan. The right-hander said he expects to throw one inning in his first appearance with the Yankees before gradually raising his pitch count in his subsequent outings, ultimately maxing out at around 100 pitches by the time the regular season ends. If that plan holds and Severino performs as anticipated while working longer in games, he expects to slot back into the rotation during the postseason. Before he sees any action with the big club, however, Severino will still need to clear several hurdles in his recovery over the next month and change. He's been throwing off flat ground from 75 feet this week and could be ready to throw bullpen sessions in early-to-mid-August.

Blake Snell SP | LAD
Rays' Blake Snell: Undergoing elbow surgery
Snell will undergo arthroscopic surgery to remove a loose body in his left elbow Monday, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic reports. He was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, per Juan Toribio of MLB.com.
This comes at a tough time with the Rays fighting for a playoff spot and Snell coming into form (1.64 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 31:6 K:BB over his last four starts). The left-hander will be sidelined for at least four weeks following the procedure -- Buster Olney of ESPN suggests his absence could extend closer to six weeks -- though both Snell and the Rays are confident he will pitch again this season. It remains to be seen who will replace Snell in the rotation at this point; young southpaw Brendan McKay is an option.

Jake Thompson SP | PHI
Tigers' Jake Thompson: Returns to affiliated ball
Thompson signed a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Thursday and was assigned to High-A Lakeland.
After transitioning to a full-time relief role last spring, Thompson failed to find much success at the Triple-A Toledo or major-league level across stints in the Phillies and Brewers organizations. Upon hitting free agency after the 2018 season, Thompson opted to head to the Korea Baseball Organization, where he posted a 4.74 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 62.2 innings before being released in June. He'll now return stateside for work, joining the organization that originally selected him in the second round of the 2012 first-year player draft.

Nestor Cortes SP | PHI
Yankees' Nestor Cortes: Earns win in relief
Nestor Cortes (4-0) picked up the victory Wednesday after holding the Twins to one run on three hits and two walks with one strikeout over 3.1 innings.
After getting recalled by the Yankees on Wednesday, Cortes got right to work, replacing starter J.A. Happ with one out in the fourth inning. The left-hander allowed one of Happ's batters to score on a sacrifice fly, then fanned Jorge Polanco to end the inning. Otherwise, Cortes held the Twins to a solo home run by Nelson Cruz in the fifth. Cortes has moved between Triple-A and the big leagues this season, putting together a 4.20 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 39:14 K:BB over 15 appearances with the Yankees.
