Miller will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Miller is operating as an opener for the sixth time this season. On the previous five occasions, Miller has never been asked to record more than five outs, so he's unlikely to remain in the game for more than two innings. Spencer Howard is expected to work in bulk relief behind Miller.

Little (0-1) took the loss and was charged with a blown save Tuesday against the Red Sox, giving up two runs on two hits in an inning of relief. He struck out one.

With Jordan Romano (elbow) and Yimi Garcia (elbow) both sidelined, the Blue Jays' bullpen depth is being tested, and Little flopped in a high-leverage audition Tuesday when he served up a game-winning homer to Tyler O'Neill in the eighth inning. Toronto's struggled to find a reliable left-handed reliever this season -- Tim Mayza has a 6.04 ERA, while Genesis Cabrera has a 4.55 ERA and 1.52 WHIP -- but Little doesn't seem to be the answer. The 27-year-old carries a 6.17 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 10:2 K:BB through 11.2 innings this season with just one hold in 10 appearances.

Chavez has a 1.21 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 24:10 K:BB through 29.2 innings over 23 appearances this season.

The 40-year-old right-hander is on his fourth stint with Atlanta during his 17-year career, and Chavez is once again proving to be a valuable piece of the team's bullpen. His low-leverage role limits his fantasy value -- he has zero saves or holds, and his only win came back on March 30 -- but he's worked more than an inning in four of his last seven appearances, helping to keep the team's higher-leverage options fresh.

Gallegos (shoulder) could be activated from the 15-day injured list as soon as Thursday, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The expectation had been that Gallegos would return sometime during the Cardinals' current series versus the Marlins, and while he is with the team in Miami, the club has opted to hold off on activating the reliever for now. Gallegos has been out since early May with a right shoulder impingement. He posted a 12.00 ERA in 13 appearances with St. Louis before getting hurt.

The Marlins designated Emanuel for assignment Wednesday.

Emanuel pitched both of the last two nights and threw 29 pitches over two scoreless innings Tuesday versus the Cardinals. The Marlins moved Emanuel off their 26-man active roster and 40-man roster to clear room for right-hander Yonny Chirinos, who was called up from Triple-A Jacksonville to start Wednesday's series finale versus St. Louis.

Brieske tossed 2.1 scoreless innings of relief in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Atlanta. He struck out two.

Brieske helped keep Detroit in the game but didn't get enough run support to possibly scoop up his second win of the season. The righty allowed two earned runs in consecutive outings earlier this month, but since then he's rattled off four straight scoreless innings. Overall, Brieske has a solid 2.95 ERA and 0.87 WHIP across 18.1 innings this year.

The White Sox released Hill on Tuesday.

Hill cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and is now free to sign with another organization. The veteran reliever posted a 5.87 ERA and 13:10 K:BB over 23 innings for the White Sox this season.

Robertson (elbow) allowed two runs on two hits and two walks over one inning in his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.

Robertson missed a month of action with right elbow inflammation but is now on the comeback trail. The reliever should be activated from the 15-day injured list soon but isn't a guarantee to be added back to the major-league roster at that time.

The Cardinals optioned Loutos to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Loutos' most recent stint with the big club lasted just a few days, and he didn't make an appearance. The righty turned in two scoreless relief appearances for the Cardinals earlier this season.

Kinley allowed four earned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one to record his only out Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Kinley entered the game in the ninth inning with the Rockies up by five runs. He allowed three of the first four batters he faced to reach base before serving up a grand slam to Jason Heyward. He was pulled immediately thereafter, sparing him a loss or blown save, but it was still a disastrous outing that ultimately led to a Rockies loss. Kinley has taken over as Colorado's primary closer, though he's now given up six earned runs across his last three appearances spanning 2.1 frames.
