  • Justin Wilson RP | BOS

Cubs' Justin Wilson: Records fifth hold Saturday

Wilson tossed a scoreless eighth inning with two strikeouts in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Pirates to earn his fifth hold of the season.

Wilson was a bit choppy to begin the season but he's been dialed in lately, as he's been scored on just once in his last 16 appearances. The lefty has lowered his season ERA to 2.36 and he should continue to serve as a high-leverage arm out of the Chicago bullpen with plenty of opportunities to increase his holds total.

  • Brad Hand RP | ATL

Padres' Brad Hand: Grabs hold Saturday

Hand picked up his third hold of the season Saturday, striking out one batter in a clean inning against the Marlins.

Manager Andy Green deployed Hand in the eighth inning after the Padres took the lead on a Travis Jankowski single. Hand answered the bell with another scoreless frame to drop his ERA back down to 1.95. He'll resume closer duties the next time a save opportunity arises.

  • Kirby Yates RP | PIT

Padres' Kirby Yates: Notches save Saturday

Yates picked up the save Saturday against the Marlins. He registered one strikeout over a clean 16-pitch inning.

Brad Hand had already tossed a lockdown inning, so the Padres turned to Yates to finish things off after taking the lead in the eighth on a Travis Jankowski RBI single. Yates has allowed just three earned runs over his last 20 outings (20.1 IP) while notching 24 strikeouts over that span. The Padres will sometimes deploy Hand in non-closer duties if tough left-handed hitters come up before the ninth -- as was the case Saturday with Miami's Justin Bour -- and Yates might grab more than the occasional closing chance should the odds fall in his favor . A similar situation allowed Yates to save last Sunday's victory. Deep-league fantasy players could try to scrounge for such opportunities from Yates. Hand also could be trade fodder for San Diego around this year's deadline, which might open up the closer job for Yates should he hang around.

  • Brent Suter RP | ATL

Brewers' Brent Suter: Earns another win Saturday

Suter (6-4) earned the win Saturday, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk in the 12-3 win over Philadelphia. He recorded five strikeouts.

Suter's only real blemish of the day was a three-run home run in the third inning by Rhys Hoskins. The 28-year-old left-hander has yet to work a full six innings in a start this season, but is usually a solid bet to go five-plus innings while giving up a few runs. Suter lines up to face the Phillies again next Friday in Milwaukee.

  • Dennis Santana RP | ARI

Dodgers' Dennis Santana: Moves to 60-day DL

Santana (shoulder) was shifted to the 60-day disabled list Saturday due to his right rotator cuff strain, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Manager Dave Roberts said he doesn't believe Santana needs surgery, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports, but he may not resume any baseball activities until July.

  • Pat Venditte RP | LAD

Dodgers' Pat Venditte: Returns to Triple-A

Venditte was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Venditte has four stints in the majors since the Dodgers added him to the 40-man roster in early May, with three of them lasting two days or fewer. The ambidextrous pitcher has allowed four runs on eight hits across 4.1 innings during his time with Los Angeles.

  • Giants' Dereck Rodriguez: Struggles vs. Nats

Rodriguez (1-1) allowed five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two across 2.2 innings Saturday as he took the loss against Washington.

The Nationals got to Rodriguez quickly, pushing across one run in the first inning, followed by four more in the second. Through three starts this season, he's posted a 5.25 ERA and 1.83 WHIP while allowing a .296 batting average against.

  • Wander Suero RP | ATH

Nationals' Wander Suero: Optioned to Triple-A

Suero was sent down to Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.

With the return of Adam Eaton from the disabled list (ankle), Suero was optioned to the minors and Rafael Bautista was released from the organization in order to make room on the 40-man roster. Over 12 appearances with the Nationals this season, Suero has logged a 4.15 ERA and 1.38 WHIP with an 11:5 K:BB over 13 innings.

  • Pedro Strop RP | CHC

Cubs' Pedro Strop: Picks up first save Friday

Strop pitched 1.1 scoreless innings with one hit allowed and one strikeout to record his first save of the season Friday against the Pirates.

Regular closer Brandon Morrow had appeared in the last two games, so it appeared he was simply getting a breather, which allowed Strop to record the save. The 32-year-old righty has been solid for the Cubs this season, as he now has a 2.03 ERA and 1.05 WHIP across 26.2 innings of work.

  • John Brebbia RP | COL

Cardinals' John Brebbia: Picks up second save Friday

Brebbia gave up a hit and a walk while striking out one in a scoreless 10th inning Friday to record his second save of the season in a 7-6 win over the Reds.

After Bud Norris blew the save in the ninth, the Cards immediately struck back for another run to set up Brebbia for his second career big-league save. The 28-year-old has been reasonably effective overall this season, posting a 3.66 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 20:5 K:BB in 19.2 innings, but all eight of the runs he's allowed came in a six-appearance stretch in mid-May, and that kind of volatility will likely keep him from a more prominent role in the bullpen.
