  • Danny Coulombe RP | BOS

Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Notches first save

Coulombe worked a scoreless ninth inning Monday to record his first save of the season in a 2-0 win over the Yankees.

With Craig Kimbrel (back) sidelined, Yennier Cano remained in his high-leverage role and retired Aaron Judge as the final out of the seventh inning before taking care of Anthony Rizzo, Giancarlo Stanton and Austin Wells in the eighth. After Cano gave up a single to begin the ninth, however, Coulombe was brought in to handle the bottom of New York's order and needed only 12 pitches (nine strikes) to get the job done. Kimbrel may not be unavailable for long, but if he does wind up on the injured list, Coulombe could factor more heavily into the endgame mix for manager Brandon Hyde than expected. The southpaw has pitched well to begin the season, posting a 3.18 ERA, 0.62 WHIP and 14:2 K:BB through 11.1 innings.

  • Athletics' Scott Alexander: Set for live BP

Alexander (ribs) is expected to throw live batting practice Tuesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Alexander continues to progress in his recovery from a left rib contusion and he'll take the next step in his rehab process Tuesday. The 34-year-old has missed the entirety of the 2024 season to this point and he'll still likely have a multi-outing rehab assignment before he'll be able to return to the major-league bullpen down the road.

  • Freddy Tarnok RP | MIA

Athletics' Freddy Tarnok: Set for bullpen session

Tarnok (hip) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session and live BP later in the week, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Tarnok received a cortisone injection earlier in the month after experiencing inflammation in his surgically repaired right hip, and he's now on track to return to mound work this week. The club figures to take its time easing him back into action considering the right-hander has already had a setback following surgery.

  • Tommy Kahnle RP | BOS

Yankees' Tommy Kahnle: Faces live hitters Saturday

Kahnle (shoulder) threw 15 pitches against live hitters Saturday, Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.

Kahnle began throwing bullpens April 12, and he has now progressed to live throwing sessions. The right-hander is expected to face live hitters again early this week, and he could go on a minor-league rehab assignment soon thereafter.

  • Jhoan Duran RP | PHI

Twins' Jhoan Duran: In line to be activated Tuesday

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said that Duran (oblique) will likely be activated from the 15-day injured list Tuesday, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Duran has rejoined the Twins in Chicago following a pair of minor-league rehab appearances. While he won't be activated prior to Monday's series opener versus the White Sox, Duran looks like he just needed one additional day of recovery after making his most recent rehab appearance Saturday. Baldelli didn't say whether Duran would immediately regain his closer job or be eased back in upon his reinstatement, but fantasy managers should probably go ahead and activate the hard thrower for this week so as not to miss out on any potential saves he might net.

  • Zac Kristofak RP | LAA

Angels' Zac Kristofak: Back down to minors

Following Sunday's loss to the Twins, the Angels optioned Kristofak to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Kristofak closed out the last two innings of Sunday's game, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out two batters. The right-hander will head back down to Triple-A, where he has appeared in six games and has posted a 3.38 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 18.2 frames. The move corresponds with right-hander Davis Daniel being recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday.

  • Davis Daniel RP | CIN

Angels' Davis Daniel: Brought back to big club

The Angels recalled Daniel from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday.

Daniel was optioned to Triple-A during spring training. He's started in five games with Salt Lake, going 0-3 while recording a 6.08 ERA, 1.81 WHIP and 26:8 K:BB over 23.2 innings. To make room for Daniel in the bullpen, the Angels optioned right-hander Zac Kristofak to Triple-A Salt Lake following Sunday's loss to the Twins.

  • Jhoan Duran RP | PHI

    Twins' Jhoan Duran: Activation imminent

Duran (oblique) is with the Twins in Chicago for their series against the White Sox and his activation from the 15-day injured list appears imminent, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

There's no word on Duran possibly being activated Monday, but it sounds like he should join the roster at some point during the series. The closer has been out all season with a right oblique strain but is ready to roll after making two rehab appearances. It's possible manager Rocco Baldelli will want to see Duran in a low-leverage spot or two initially, but it shouldn't be long before he's closing again for the Twins.

  • Jacob Lopez RP | ATH

Rays' Jacob Lopez: Back up from Triple-A

The Rays recalled Lopez from Triple-A Durham on Monday.

Lopez has been a full-time starter for Durham this season, but he'll operate as a multi-inning relief option while he joins the Rays for the second time in 2024. The Rays placed right-handed reliever Chris Devenski (knee) on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Chris Devenski RP | PIT

Rays' Chris Devenski: Shut down with knee tendinitis

The Rays placed Devenski on the 15-day injured list Monday with right knee tendinitis.

Devenski's placement on the IL is retroactive to Friday, so he'll be eligible to return as soon as May 11. The Rays called up Jacob Lopez from Triple-A Durham to fill Devenski's spot on the 26-man active roster and in the bullpen.
