  • White Sox's Hector Santiago: Lands second win despite shaky start

Santiago (2-2) allowed two runs on six hits and three walks with two strikeouts through five innings in a win Wednesday over Minnesota.

Santiago was shaky, but he managed to keep the ball in the ballpark and kept the floodgates from bursting. He needed a ridiculous 104 pitches to get through five innings, though, and even if he is lucky enough to strand seven of nine runners in future starts, counting on the White Sox offense and bullpen to help him hold onto wins in the later innings is a risky proposition at best. With the White Sox expected to welcome Carlos Rodon (shoulder) back from the 60-day disabled list this weekend in Boston, Santiago could be at risk of moving back to the bullpen.

  • Athletics' Daniel Mengden: Surrenders four homers Wednesday

Mengden allowed six runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts over just four innings in a loss Wednesday against the Rangers.

Of the five hits Mengden allowed, a ridiculous four were home runs, and none of them were cheap, as Jurickson Profar's 395 foot blast in the third inning was the shortest of the four. Mengden had allowed just six home runs in his first 12 starts and had a stingy 0.7 HR/9, a major improvement from the 1.2 HR/9 he posted in his first two seasons. That improvement is all but erased now, as his 2018 HR/9 now sits at 1.1. Mengden still owns a solid 51:11 K:BB with a 3.45 ERA, and Texas is known as a hitters' paradise, but this is concerning, as Mengden's ability to suppress the home run was a big factor behind his early success. He'll get a chance to prove Wednesday's start was just a fluke Tuesday against Houston.

  • Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Notches 15th save Wednesday

Chapman gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless 13th inning Wednesday to record his 15th save of the season in a 3-0 win over the Blue Jays.

The left-hander's now converted eight straight save chances over the last month, posting a 0.84 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 16:6 K:BB in 10.2 innings during that stretch. Chapman's 16.1 K/9 so far this season is his highest mark since 2014.

  • Aaron Bummer RP | KC

White Sox's Aaron Bummer: Sent to minors

Bummer was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The White Sox are expected to announce a corresponding roster move prior to Thursday's series finale against the Twins. Bummer owns a solid 3.26 ERA and 21:6 K:BB across 19.1 innings this season, so he'll likely be back with the big club when a fresh reliever is needed.

  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Rays' Matt Andriese: Friday role clarified

Andriese is slated to enter Friday's "bullpen day" game against the Mariners after opening pitcher Wilmer Font, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Manager Kevin Cash had been somewhat coy about Andriese's exact role for Friday's series opener, a game that Chris Archer (abdomen) was slated to start before his placement on the disabled list. It's now confirmed the versatile right-hander will likely enter the game fairly early on, and he could potentially find himself working a relatively extensive long-relief outing if he proves effective.

  • Daniel Norris RP | CLE

Tigers' Daniel Norris: Begins light throwing program

Manager Ron Gardenhire said Norris (groin) began a light throwing program Wednesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Norris is on the 60-day disabled list while he recovers from groin surgery that he underwent at the beginning of May. While he's still multiple weeks away from returning, this is a small step in the right direction for the southpaw.

  • Zack Littell RP | ARI

Twins' Zack Littell: Returns to minors

Littell was sent back to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.

After serving as the 26th man for Tuesday's doubleheader against the White Sox, Littell will head back to Triple-A. He struggled in a spot start, surrendering six runs on six hits and four walks while taking the loss.

  • Lou Trivino RP | PHI

Athletics' Lou Trivino: Rare stumble Tuesday

Trivino (3-1) allowed three earned runs on two hits and a walk over one-third of an inning in a loss to the Rangers on Tuesday. He struck out one.

After a near-perfect run to open his major-league career, Trivino finally showed some vulnerability Tuesday. Asked to preserve a 4-4 tie entering the bottom of the eighth, Trivino immediately faltered by allowing a leadoff 404-foot solo home run to Adrian Beltre. A Jurickson Profar walk later, it was Joey Gallo's turn to take the young right-hander deep, and his two-run homer gave the Rangers a three-run lead that proved to be the final margin of victory. The pair of round trippers were the first two surrendered by Trivino over his first 22.1 big-league innings, and the forgettable outing bumped his ERA up more than a full run, from a sparkling 0.82 to 2.01.

  • Twins' Brusdar Graterol: Returns to health

Graterol (wrist) was reinstated from the 7-day disabled list Wednesday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.

Graterol recently landed on the disabled list with a wrist issue, but the injury was minor and he's ready to return to action. The 19-year-old right-hander has made five starts for Low-A Cedar Rapids this season, posting a 1.78 ERA and 0.92 WHIP with a 36:6 K:BB over 25.1 innings.

  • Ryne Stanek RP | STL

Rays' Ryne Stanek: Will open Thursday

Stanek is listed as Thursday's starting pitcher against the Mariners, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Stanek will get another chance to serve as the team's opener, but he likely won't throw more than two innings. In his last five appearances, he's posted a 2.45 ERA and 0.68 WHIP with seven strikeouts over 7.1 innings.
