  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Working to play outfield

Stanton is building up physically to play in the outfield, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports.

The slugger expects to be fit for such a role by early July, citing his desire to play in the Yankees' games in Miami at the end of that month. Although he's recovered from his May quad injury, Stanton still faced enough limitations to be held out of the weekend's games in Philadelphia.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Power, speed on display

Ohtani went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Wednesday's 8-4 loss to the A's.

His second-inning blast off Cole Irvin was Ohtani's 19th homer of the year, while his fifth-inning steal was his 10th. The 26-year-old is now the fourth player in MLB and the first in the AL to reach double digits in both categories, joining Ronald Acuna, Fernando Tatis and Trea Turner.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Return depends on sprint speed

Buxton (hip) will be activated when he can achieve his typical sprint speed, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Manager Rocco Baldelli said Buxton won't play until "he's able to sprint like he can sprint." The skipper also mentioned the possibility of Buxton playing more rehab games.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Not starting Wednesday

Turner is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

He receives a day off following a 1-for-4 performance Tuesday. Turner's absence Wednesday is a bit odd, considering he has gone 4-for-8 with a homer in his career against Phillies' starter Zack Wheeler, but there's been no indication it's anything other than a normal day of rest for the 36-year-old. Zach McKinstry gets the start at third base Wednesday.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Laces RBI double

Canha went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a run in a win over the Angels on Tuesday.

The veteran leadoff man recorded his second multi-hit effort in the last three games while pushing his June slash line to an impressive .286/.352/.490 across 54 plate appearances. Canha already has 13 RBI over 12 games in the current month, a stretch during which he's already knocked in multiple runs on four occasions.

  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

Giants' Brandon Belt: Homer shy of cycle

Belt went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double, a walk and three runs scored in Tuesday's 9-8 win over Arizona.

Belt came up a home run short of the cycle in San Francisco's comeback win. The first baseman went 0-for-12 in last weekend's series versus Washington, but he's now 5-for-7 in two games against Arizona. Four of those hits have gone for extra bases. The 33-year-old is slashing .241/.365/.475 with eight home runs, 22 RBI, 24 runs scored and two stolen bases through 170 plate appearances overall.

  • Rockies' Charlie Blackmon: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Blackmon isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Blackmon will get a breather after he went 2-for-10 with a run, an RBI, three walks and two strikeouts across the last three games. Yonathan Daza will shift to right field while Garrett Hampson starts in center.

  • White Sox's Yermin Mercedes: Not starting Wednesday

Mercedes isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Mercedes has gone 0-for-8 with five strikeouts across his last two appearances, and he'll retreat to the bench for the second time in the last four games. Yasmani Grandal will serve as the designated hitter while Zack Collins starts behind the plate.

  • Bryce Harper 1B | PHI

Phillies' Bryce Harper: Won't play Wednesday

Manager Joe Girardi said Tuesday after the Phillies' 5-3 loss to the Dodgers that Harper (back) won't be available for Wednesday's series finale, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

The Phillies lost both Harper and Jean Segura (groin) due to injuries Tuesday, though Girardi suggested the latter's health is a greater concern moving forward than the former. While Harper will sit Wednesday due to lower-back tightness, the Phillies are labeling him as day-to-day and are hopeful he'll be ready to go for this weekend's series in San Francisco following a team off day Thursday.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Takes seat Wednesday

Cabrera isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals.

Cabrera went 5-for-9 with a double, three runs and three RBI across the last two games. Jeimer Candelario will serve as the designated hitter while Harold Castro enters the lineup at third base.
