  • Jesse Winker DH | NYM

Mariners' Jesse Winker: Returns to lineup Saturday

Winker (shoulder) is starting Saturday against the Astros, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Winker was scratched from Friday's lineup due to right shoulder soreness, but he'll be back in action a day later. The 28-year-old went 3-for-18 with two runs, an RBI, three walks and four strikeouts over his last five games. He'll start in center field and lead off Saturday.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Not in lineup for night game

Martinez will not start the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Orioles, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Martinez went 1-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in the first game of the day. Even though he merely served as the designated hitter, the Red Sox evidently don't want him playing 18 innings in one day. Franchy Cordero will fill that spot in his absence, with Bobby Dalbec starting at first base.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Resumes hitting

Stanton (ankle) has resumed hitting, and he could return to action after the minimum 10 days on the injured list, the Associated Press reports.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone described Stanton's hitting as "light," per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, but it's a good sign that the slugger is taking swings just a few days after going on the injured list. Boone sounded optimistic about Stanton's outlook, stating, "I think we avoided a [more serious] situation there, so that's encouraging." Stanton is eligible to come off the IL on June 4.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Begins rehab assignment

Jimenez (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Jimenez has missed five weeks with a right hamstring injury which wound up requiring surgery. He was originally given a timeline of 6-to-8 weeks, so it looks as though he'll be right on schedule. Given the length of his absence, he'll likely need more than just a game or two of rehab action, but it still seems possible that he'll wind up closer to the early end of his return timetable.

  • Cooper Hummel LF | HOU

Diamondbacks' Cooper Hummel: Not starting Saturday

Hummel isn't starting Saturday against the Dodgers.

Hummel entered as a pinch hitter during the last two games, and he went 0-for-2 with a run and a walk. He'll remain out of the lineup Saturday with Daulton Varsho serving as the designated hitter and Jose Herrera starting behind the dish.

  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Rangers' Brad Miller: Sits against southpaw

Miller isn't starting Saturday's game against Oakland.

Miller went 1-for-9 with two RBI, a run, a walk and five strikeouts over the last four games, and he'll be out of Saturday's lineup with left-hander Zach Logue on the mound for the Athletics. Eli White will start in left field and bat ninth.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Yankees' Matt Carpenter: Pops first homer of 2022

Carpenter went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Friday's 2-0 win over the Rays.

He took Jeffrey Springs deep in the fourth inning, giving Carpenter his first hit as a Yankee. The long-time Cardinal will help fill in while players like Josh Donaldson (shoulder) and Giancarlo Stanton (ankle) are sidelined, but it remains to be seen if Carpenter will stick around once the Yankees get healthier.

  • Cooper Hummel LF | HOU

Diamondbacks' Cooper Hummel: Enters as PH

Hummel went 0-for-1 with a walk and a run scored in Friday's 6-4 loss to the Dodgers.

Hummel entered in the seventh inning as a pinch hitter for Jordan Luplow, who was removed with a foot injury. Luplow was in the game after Daulton Varsho left with a back injury, so the Diamondbacks could be down a pair of outfielders heading into Saturday's game. That would open an opportunity for the switch-hitting Hummel, who is batting .186 over 86 at-bats.

  • Jesse Winker DH | NYM

Mariners' Jesse Winker: Dealing with sore shoulder

Winker was scratched from Friday's lineup versus Houston due to right shoulder soreness, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.

The specifics of the injury remain unclear, but Winker has dealt with injuries to the same shoulder in the past, including a 73-game absence in 2018. The 28-year-old should be considered day-to-day until more information is available on the injury.

  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

Giants' Brandon Belt: Won't return when first eligible

Belt (knee) isn't expected to be ready to return from the injured list when first eligible Sunday, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Belt received a cortisone shot and had his knee drained last weekend, and he remains in San Francisco to rehab while the team embarks on a 10-game road trip. Whether or not he'll join the team at some point during the trip remains to be seen.
