  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

Royals' Franmil Reyes: Accounts for lone run

Reyes went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Blue Jays.

The Royals' offense has been poor to begin 2023, and Reyes hasn't been immune from those struggles. His second-inning solo shot was his first hit of the season, and one of just four in Tuesday's game for the home team. The 27-year-old slugged 44 homers over the last two seasons, so he should provide some pop if he can work out of his 1-for-10 slump to start the campaign.

  • Rockies' Charlie Blackmon: Not starting Tuesday

Blackmon isn't in the Rockies' lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

After going 7-for-20 from the plate with a home run and three RBI over his first five games, Blackmon will get a day off to rest. Elehuris Montero will fill in as the Rockies' DH, allowing Alan Trejo to get reps in the hot corner and bat eighth.

  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

Blue Jays' Brandon Belt: Not starting Tuesday

Belt isn't in the Blue Jays' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals.

After starting the season just 1-for-11 at the plate through three games, Belt will take a seat Friday for the second time in three days. George Springer will take over as Toronto's designated hitter, opening up right field for Whit Merrifield and allowing Santiago Espinal to get reps at second base, batting eighth.

  • Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT

Braves' Marcell Ozuna: Out of lineup Tuesday

Ozuna is absent from Atlanta's starting lineup Tuesday against the Cardinals.

Kevin Pillar is in left field and batting ninth versus the Cardinals and left-hander Steven Matz, with Travis d'Arnaud handling DH duties and hitting cleanup. Ozuna slugged a solo homer Saturday against the Nationals, but it's his only hit through 16 plate appearances this season.

  • Byron Buxton DH | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Absent from lineup Tuesday

Buxton is not in the Twins' lineup for Tuesday's game in Miami.

It looks to be a routine day off for Buxton, who had started each of the Twins' first four games this season in the designated hitter spot. Solano will be the DH on Tuesday, while Michael Taylor will again handle center field.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Padres' Matt Carpenter: Another start versus righty

Carpenter is starting at first base and batting sixth for the Padres in Tuesday's game versus the Diamondbacks.

Manager Bob Melvin has stuck to a true platoon with Carpenter and Nelson Cruz to this point, giving Carpenter four starts against righties and Cruz two starts versus lefties. This is Carpenter's first start at first base, as Jake Cronenworth will slide to second, Ha-Seong Kim will play third and Manny Machado will be the designated hitter.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Goes deep again Monday

Ohtani went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run Monday in a 7-3 win over the Mariners.

Ohtani broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning with a 431-foot, two-run shot to center field. It was his second homer in as many days and gave him at least one hit in each of the four games in which he has played this season. Ohtani is slashing .294/.333/.647 with five RBI and three runs through 18 plate appearances.

  • Bligh Madris DH | STL

    Astros' Bligh Madris: Clears waivers

The Astros outrighted Madris to Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday.

He'll remain in the organization after none of MLB's other 29 teams put in a waiver claim for the 27-year-old outfielder after he was designated for assignment prior to Opening Day. Madris appeared in 39 games at the big-league level as a rookie with the Pirates in 2022, slashing .177/.244/.265 with a home run and two steals in 123 plate appearances.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Giants' Joc Pederson: Opens scoring in slugfest

Pederson went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 12-3 win over the White Sox.

Pederson hit the first of the Giants' seven homers on the day. He's gone just 3-for-14 across his first four games this season, but two of those hits have left the yard. He had 23 homers in 134 games last season, so a strong display of power from Pederson shouldn't be too surprising. He appears to be the Giants' preferred cleanup hitter against right-handed pitchers.

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Drives in four runs

Alvarez went 1-for-6 with a home run and four RBI in Monday's loss to the Tigers.

Alvarez ripped a three-run shot in the fifth inning and later added an RBI groundout in the 11th. His home run was a 435-foot, 110 mph rocket to tie the game at 4-4. The lefty slugger is 6-for-17 to start the year with three extra-base hits and 11 RBI.
