  • Rockies' Elehuris Montero: Not in lineup Tuesday

Montero is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

After sitting out Sunday against the Rays, Montero rejoined the starting lineup at first base for the series opener Monday, when he finished 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly. He's had a slow start to the season, slashing .160/.241/.160 with one RBI and no extra-base hits over 29 plate appearances. Kris Bryant will start at first base Tuesday and hit fifth against Diamondbacks right-hander Merrill Kelly.

  • DJ Stewart RF | PIT

Mets' DJ Stewart: First hit of season leaves yard

Stewart went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Monday's win over Atlanta.

The 30-year-old came into the game having gone 0-for-10 to start the season, but Stewart broke a 5-5 tie in the eighth inning by launching a Pierce Johnson curveball over the fence in center field. Stewart has been the Mets' regular DH against right-handed pitching to begin the season, but he'll lose that role -- and potentially even his spot on the 26-man roster -- when J.D. Martinez (body soreness) is ready to make his debut for the club.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Hot streak continues

Ohtani went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, two doubles and an additional run scored in Monday's win against the Twins.

Ohtani has now generated multiple hits in each of his last five games, racking up three homers and seven runs scored with a .500 batting average. Sandwiched between Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman in the Dodgers' batting order on most nights, Ohtani could be in line for a career year at the plate.

  • Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT

Braves' Marcell Ozuna: Notches fifth homer of 2024

Ozuna went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run Monday against the Mets.

Ozuna tagged Mets' starter Julio Teheran in the third inning for the two-run shot, continuing the outfielders' monstrous start to 2024. He's now tied with Mike Trout, Mookie Betts and Tyler O'Neill for the most long balls in MLB and is part of a four-way tie for the third-most RBI (12).

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Stays hot Monday

Alvarez went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBI and three runs scored in Monday's win over the Rangers.

Alvarez belted a two-run shot in the second inning and later knocked an RBI double in the fourth. He's gone deep in consecutive games and has four over his last five appearances. During that five-game stretch, he's gone 10-for-20 (.500) with nine RBI, raising his season OPS to .981.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Diamondbacks' Joc Pederson: Sits against southpaw

Pederson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rockies.

Pederson will miss out on a start at Coors Field since lefty Kyle Freeland is taking the mound Monday for Colorado. Blaze Alexander will serve as the designated hitter while Kevin Newman starts at shortstop.

  • Nick Martini DH | COL

Reds' Nick Martini: Sits versus lefty

Martini is not in the lineup for Monday's game versus Milwaukee.

Martini will once again head to the bench as the Brewers send out Aaron Ashby to pitch Monday. Jonathan India will serve as the designated hitter while Santiago Espinal receives a start at second base.

  • Abraham Toro 1B | BOS

Athletics' Abraham Toro: Makes noise out of leadoff spot

Toro went 2-for-4 with an RBI infield single and two runs in a loss to the Tigers on Sunday.

Toro led off for the first time this season and did a solid job out of the top of the order, setting the table twice and posting his first multi-hit effort of the season. Toro now as an RBI in back-to-back appearances as well, and he should continue to see intermittent playing time at third base and designated hitter.

  • David Fry C | CLE

Guardians' David Fry: Batting third Monday

Fry will start at designated hitter and bat third in Monday's game versus the White Sox.

The White Sox are going with an opener in lefty Tanner Banks, so putting the right-handed hitting Fry in the third spot ensures at least one plate appearance versus a southpaw. Three of Fry's four starts this season have come against lefties, and he's 3-for-5 with a double versus them in the early going.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Elbow still not feeling 100 percent

Machado said Sunday that his surgically repaired right elbow is "not 100 percent" and he's been told by doctors he might not feel fully healthy until next season, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

Machado experienced some fatigue in the elbow during spring training, which has delayed his return to third base. While Padres manager Mike Shildt indicated Saturday that Machado could play the hot corner before the end of April, Machado said Sunday that "there's not really a timetable on it." The elbow doesn't affect Machado at the plate, as he's started all 12 games at designated hitter (though he's hitting only .196/.288/.370 so far). San Diego has used a combination of Tyler Wade, Graham Pauley and Eguy Rosario at third base.
