  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Mets' J.D. Martinez: Taking seat Wednesday

Martinez isn't in the Mets' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies.

After going 0-for-10 with five strikeouts over his last three games, Martinez will take a seat Wednesday while Jesse Winker serves as New York's DH and Ben Gamel starts in right field.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Resting for first game of day

Stanton is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Angels.

The Yankees likely aren't keen on having superstar Aaron Judge play two full games in the outfield Wednesday, so he'll serve as the designated hitter in the early contest, which leaves no room in the lineup for Stanton. Look for Stanton to serve as the DH in the nightcap while Judge returns to a spot in the outfield.

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Tallies 21st homer

Alvarez went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run Tuesday against the Rangers.

Alvarez slugged his 21st home run of the season and his first since July 21. His power has dipped significantly from past seasons -- his .230 ISO is 60 points below his mark in 2023 -- which has also significantly cut into his counting stats. While Alvarez remains a strong source of batting average, the rest of his line has suffered.

  • David Fry DH | CLE

Guardians' David Fry: On bench for first game of day

Fry is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Diamondbacks.

The Guardians are giving Jose Ramirez some time off third base in the first game of the day and deploying him at designated hitter, so Fry will be the odd man out of the Cleveland lineup. Expect Fry to return to the starting nine for the nightcap and take on a prominent spot in the batting order while the Guardians oppose lefty Eduardo Rodriguez.

  • Kyle Schwarber DH | PHI

Phillies' Kyle Schwarber: Provides late insurance homer

Schwarber went 2-for-5 with a solo homer, two RBI and a steal in Tuesday's win over the Dodgers.

Schwarber singled home the game's first run in the fifth and then followed that up with a solo home run in the ninth to pad the Phillies' lead. He now has a homer in two of his last three games and has notched at least a base hit in six straight. In nine starts since July 27, Schwarber is slashing .378/.531/.865 with five homers, nine RBI and 10 runs scored. He's currently on pace to set career-best marks in hits, runs and on-base percentage. For the year, Schwarber is slashing .253/.384/.473 with 24 homers, 66 RBI, 76 runs, five steals and an 81:131 BB:K in 474 plate appearances.

  • Red Sox's Masataka Yoshida: Drives in three in win

Yoshida went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a two-run single in Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Royals.

Yoshida entered the week on an 0-for-13 skid, but he's torched the Royals for six hits over the first two games of this series. Three of those knocks have gone for extra bases, including his solo shot in the third inning Tuesday. The 31-year-old is up to a .279/.353/.406 slash line with six homers, 37 RBI, 30 runs scored, 11 doubles and no stolen bases over 64 contests this year while serving as the Red Sox's primary designated hitter.

  • Rockies' Charlie Blackmon: Returning to lineup Tuesday

Blackmon (head) is batting leadoff as the designated hitter Tuesday against the Mets.

The 38-year-old sat out Saturday and Sunday after being hit in the head by a throw during Friday's contest, but he'll return to action for Tuesday's series opener versus New York. Blackmon has a .225/.340/.300 slash line with a 7:12 BB:K in 11 games since the All-Star break.

  • Pirates' Andrew McCutchen: Rejoining lineup Tuesday

McCutchen (quadriceps) is batting leadoff as the designated hitter Tuesday against the Padres.

The 37-year-old was withheld from Sunday's starting nine after he tweaked his quad during Saturday's contest, but he'll make a quick return to the lineup Tuesday. McCutchen has a .240/.345/.360 slash line with one homer and an 8:14 BB:K in 14 games since the All-Star break.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Hits homer, swipes base

Ohtani went 2-for-3 with a home run, two total RBI and a stolen base in Monday's 5-3 win over Philadelphia.

Ohtani tied the score with a sacrifice fly in the third inning and added a solo homer in the eighth. He also swiped a bag in the fifth frame. This was the seventh time this season that Ohtani has stolen a base and homered in the same game. He's making a serious run at the Triple Crown in the National League, leading the circuit in batting average (.309) and homers (34) while ranking second in RBI (81). He's also tied for second in the NL with 32 stolen bases.

  • Red Sox's Masataka Yoshida: Racks up four hits Monday

Yoshida went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two runs Monday in a 9-5 win against the Royals.

None of Yoshida's hits knocked in a run, but he did score twice in the victory. The big performance snapped a four-game hitless stretch during which the DH had gone 0-for-13. This was Yoshida's second four-hit effort of the campaign.
