Diamondbacks' Joc Pederson: Idle versus southpaw

Pederson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies.

Pederson will hit the bench for the series finale while the Rockies send southpaw Austin Gomber to the hill. Randal Grichuk (lower body) will replace Pederson in the lineup as Arizona's designated hitter.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Up to 48 homers

Ohtani went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 11-9 loss to the Marlins.

Ohtani got Los Angeles on the board in the third inning with a two-run blast off Darren McCaughan, cutting the Marlins' lead to 4-2. Ohtani is up to 48 long balls on the season, leaving him two home runs and two stolen bases shy of becoming the first player in major-league history to post a 50-50 season. Ohtani is now slashing .287/.372/.611 on the campaign with 110 RBI and 119 runs scored across 675 plate appearances.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Getting Tuesday off

Stanton isn't in the Yankees' lineup for Tuesday's game versus Seattle.

Stanton has tallied a hit in each of his last three games, but he'll step out of the starting nine Tuesday while Aaron Judge serves as New York's designated hitter and Alex Verdugo picks up a start in the outfield.

  • Nationals' Andres Chaparro: Resting Tuesday

Chaparro isn't in the Nationals' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets.

Chaparro will get a day off Tuesday after going 0-for-3 with a strikeout during Monday's series opener. His absence will allow Juan Yepez to work as the Nationals' designated hitter and bat cleanup.

  • Ryan O'Hearn 1B | PIT

Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Sitting against southpaw

O'Hearn isn't in Baltimore's lineup Tuesday against the Giants.

The lefty-hitting O'Hearn will begin Tuesday's game in the dugout with fellow left-hander Blake Snell set to start on the bump for San Francisco. Coby Mayo will handle first-base duties while O'Hearn sits, and Eloy Jimenez will serve as the Orioles' DH.

  • Giants' Jerar Encarnacion: Absent from Tuesday's lineup

Encarnacion is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game in Baltimore.

Encarnacion has seen his playing time pick up lately with five straight starts but he will begin Tuesday's series opener against the Orioles on the bench. Michael Conforto will serve as the Giants' designated hitter.

  • Kyle Manzardo 1B | CLE

Guardians' Kyle Manzardo: Crushes game-winning homer

Manzardo went 1-for-3 with a walk, a two-run home run and a second run scored in Monday's 4-3 win over the Twins.

The rookie slugger tattooed a Griffin Jax fastball deep to right field in the eighth inning, giving the Guardians their first and only lead of the game. Manzardo still isn't seeing consistent playing time, but he's been a more reliable contributor of late when he is on the lineup card, slashing .278/.333/.583 through 39 plate appearances in September with two doubles and all three of his big-league homers so far.

  • Pirates' Andrew McCutchen: Out of lineup Monday

McCutchen is absent from the lineup for Monday's game in St. Louis, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

McCutchen started the previous three and six of the last seven contests, but he will begin Monday's series opener on the bench. Joey Bart will get a start at designated hitter in McCutchen's stead.

  • Blue Jays' Tyler Heineman: Lands with Toronto

The Blue Jays claimed Heineman off waivers from the Red Sox on Monday.

Heineman has a minor-league option remaining, but he appears set to join the Blue Jays' 28-man active roster after Toronto designated its backup catcher (Brian Serven) for assignment in a corresponding move. The 33-year-old Heineman will be beginning his third stint with Toronto after spending time in the organization during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

  • Brent Rooker DH | ATH

Athletics' Brent Rooker: Launches 37th homer Sunday

Rooker went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a loss to the White Sox on Sunday.

Rooker's 407-foot shot to center with Lawrence Butler aboard in the fifth inning accounted for Oakland's first runs of the game. The round tripper pushed Rooker's career-best season total to 37 and was his fourth in the last 10 games alone, while the two RBI the big swing generated were his 12th and 13th during that same span.
