Cardinals second baseman Matt Carpenter had an RBI double in four at-bats Monday against the Reds. Since Aug. 4, Carpenter is batting .345 (38 for 110) with one triple, one home run, 13 doubles and 14 RBI in 28 games.

Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton was able to start Monday against the Cubs after injuring his right ankle Sunday against the Braves. Stanton is batting .288 with a .591 slugging percentage, .996 OPS, five doubles, five home runs and seven RBI in his last 18 games.

Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera remains out with abdominal discomfort Monday against the Red Sox, MLive.com reports.

Cabrera also sat out Saturday and Sunday with the issue. It's unclear when he will return, but with rosters expanded for September the Tigers will not need to place him on the disabled list.

Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton tweaked his right ankle Sunday against the Braves, which might keep him out Monday against the Cubs, according to MLB.com. The injury isn't considered serious.

"Working against me is it's a day game," Stanton said. "We'll see in the morning."

Phillies outfielder Darin Ruf homered in Sunday's loss to the Cubs.

Ruf finished 1 for 3 with a walk and the solo blast. He has held his own in 172 at-bats this year, as his line sits at .256/.348/.512 with 21 RBI and 20 walks to go with 12 home runs.

Cabrera is day to day for the Tigers, who may rest him some more going forward to ensure his health for the stretch run. He is batting .358 with 43 homers and 130 RBI.

Stanton finished 1 for 3 with two runs scored, two walks and the solo blast. He's hitting .251/.366/.480 in 331 at-bats and has two home runs in his last four games and three in his last 10 -- all three have been solo shots.

The Tigers announced Friday that Miguel Cabrera left Friday's game against the Indians with irritation in his abdominal area. He was treated by doctors and is considered day-to-day.

Cabrera was 0 for 1 with a strikeout before exiting, giving him a .358/.449/.681 line with 43 home runs and 130 RBI in 483 at-bats.
