  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Won't return Sunday

Turner (back) will not return Sunday against the Giants, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

A minor back issue will cut Turner's season a few games short, though he's expected to take part in a simulated game Tuesday in hopes of not missing any time in the playoffs. He'll wrap up the season with 27 homers and a .290/.372/.509 slash line in 135 games.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Homers in loss

Martinez went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo homer in Saturday's loss to Baltimore.

The homer was Martinez's first in three full weeks, a rare drought for the veteran slugger. He'd hit just .255/.350/.294 in the 14 games since his previous home run. His .305/.383/.559 slash line on the season is still quite strong, but represents a significant drop-off from the .330/.402/.629 mark he recorded in 2018, especially considering how the league's overall offense has increased between the two seasons.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Not starting Game 2

Cabrera is out of the lineup for Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the White Sox, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Cabrera went 1-for-4 with a solo homer during the matinee but will take a seat for the nightcap. Christin Stewart will serve as Detroit's designated hitter Saturday night.

  • Astros' Michael Brantley: Day off Saturday

Brantley is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Angels, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Brantley will receive another day off as the Astros continue to gear up for the postseason. Josh Reddick, Jake Marisnick and George Springer will start from left to right in the outfield for Houston's penultimate game of the regular season.

  • Nick Solak 1B | PIT

Rangers' Nick Solak: Out of Saturday's lineup

Solak is not in Saturday's lineup against the Yankees.

He is hitting .292/.393/.528 with four home runs and one steal in 20 games this month. Shin-Soo Choo will start at designated hitter and lead off.

  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Phillies' Brad Miller: Not starting Saturday

Miller is not in the lineup Saturday against the Marlins.

Miller sits after starting nine of the last 10 games in left field. He hit .313 with five homers over that stretch. Phil Gosselin gets the start in his absence.

  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: Sits against southpaw

Dickerson will hit the bench Saturday against the Dodgers.

Dickerson sits against lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu. Joey Rickard gets the start in left field.

  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

Giants' Brandon Belt: On bench again lefty

Belt will sit against lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu and the Dodgers on Saturday.

Belt has struggled at the plate for most of September, hitting just .228/.299/.405. Austin Slater gets the nod at first base in his absence.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Not back yet

Turner (back) remains sidelined Saturday against San Francisco, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Back tightness has kept Turner out of the lineup since Tuesday. He reportedly had a shot to return Saturday but needs at least one more day off. He's considered questionable for Sunday's season finale as well but is expected to participate in a simulated game Tuesday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports. Matt Beaty starts at third base in his absence.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Hitless in return to lineup

Canha (groin) went 0-for-4 in Friday's loss to the Mariners.

Canha was back in the lineup after a one-game absence and played all nine innings in center field during the postseason-clinching win without any setbacks. The versatile veteran's blanking at the plate aside, Canha has been a pivotal part of the Athletics reaching the postseason for a second straight year with career highs in home runs (26), batting average (.273), on-base percentage (.396) and slugging percentage (.518).
