Andrew McCutchen DH | TEX
Pirates' Andrew McCutchen: Strikes out as pinch hitter Friday
McCutchen struck out in a pinch-hitting appearance to end Friday's game.
Since the All-Star break, McCutchen is slashing just .256/.363/.421 with six home runs and four stolen bases in 157 plate appearances. He's posted a .642 August OPS (in 89 PA) while his plate discipline (10:19 BB:K) has suffered. Meanwhile, McCutchen's .279 career batting average in September represents his second-worst month behind only April (.254), something to consider the rest of the way. To be fair, he bounced back after not starting for a couple days in late May, so perhaps his time off will jumpstart his numbers in the short run.

Yoenis Cespedes DH | NYM
Mets' Yoenis Cespedes: Hits disabled list
Cespedes (hamstring) was placed on the disabled list Saturday, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.
This move doesn't come as a surprise, as the Mets announced their plans to put Cespedes on the DL following Friday's game. With Cespedes out, the club has promoted Travis Taijeron to the majors for the first time in his career. As of now, a timeframe for Cespedes' return is unknown.

Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT
Marlins' Marcell Ozuna: Launches No. 30 on Friday
Ozuna went 2-for-4 with a big three-run homer in Friday's 8-6 victory over the Padres.
While Giancarlo Stanton was busy slugging two homers of his own, Ozuna saved his fireworks for the seventh inning after Adam Conley and the Marlins bullpen had blown the early lead Stanton had given them. Ozuna now has 30 homers and 101 RBI on the season to go along with his dynamite .311/.376/.556 slash line, and he needs just three more runs to set a new career high in that category as well.

Giancarlo Stanton DH | NYY
Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton: Goes deep twice Friday
Stanton went 3-for-3 with a walk, a double, two home runs, three runs scored and five RBI in Friday's 8-6 win over the Padres.
Ho hum, another monster performance from the most dangerous slugger in the game. Stanton's five RBI were a season high, and he now has six more games before the end of the month to hit just one more dinger and get to 50 before the calendar turns to September. His huge second-half run -- 23 home runs in 39 games since the All-Star break -- has also carried the Marlins back over the .500 mark for the first time since late April and into wild-card contention.

Yoenis Cespedes DH | NYM
Mets' Yoenis Cespedes: To head to disabled list with hamstring strain
Cespedes will head to the disabled list with the hamstring strain he suffered Friday night against the Nationals, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
According to general manager Sandy Alderson, this strain is just as bad as the one that sent him to the disabled list earlier this season. That stint cost Cespedes 38 games, so chances are his season is over. If so, he'll finish with a .292/.352/.540 batting line and 17 home runs over just 81 games.

Yoenis Cespedes DH | NYM
Mets' Yoenis Cespedes: Diagnosed with hamstring strain
Cespedes left Friday's game with a right hamstring strain, Steve Gelbs of Sportsnet New York reports.
The grade of the hamstring strain has not been announced, but given the way Cespedes was limping off the field, it sounds like a long shot for him to escape without a disabled list stint. Expect the club to perform further evaluations and announce if a roster move will be necessary before Saturday afternoon's game against Washington.

Yoenis Cespedes DH | NYM
Mets' Yoenis Cespedes: Limps off field in first inning
Cespedes hobbled off the field after appearing to injure his leg running home in the first inning of Friday's game against the Nationals, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.
Not only did Cespedes hurt himself badly enough to have to come out of the game, he did it on a dead ball, as a grounder up the middle wound up hitting the umpire and was ruled dead as a result. We'll consider him day-to-day until we hear more, but Cespedes has already missed significant time this year to a hamstring injury, and it's possible he could be headed back to the disabled list.

Andrew McCutchen DH | TEX
Pirates' Andrew McCutchen: Not starting Friday
McCutchen is out of the lineup Friday against the Reds.
Following two consecutive hitless games, McCutchen will get the night to clear his head. Starling Marte will move to center field while Adam Frazier and John Jaso head to left and right field.

Matt Carpenter DH | STL
Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Returns to action Friday
Carpenter (illness) is in the lineup Friday against the Rays.
After missing two games due to an illness, Carpenter is ready to return to the field. He'll hit leadoff and start at first base for Friday's interleague contest against Tampa Bay.

Jesse Winker DH | NYM
Reds' Jesse Winker: Lands on DL
Winker was placed on the disabled list Friday with a strained left hip flexor.
At this point in time, there's yet to be any information regarding the severity of Winker's injury. Although he's only played in 30 games with the big club, Winker has been effective when in the lineup this season. Over said outings he's put together a .297/.402/.500 line and mashed four home runs. In a corresponding move, Phillip Ervin was recalled from Triple-A Louisville.
