Blue Jays infielder Ryan Goins is trying to get a stranglehold over the second base job for manager John Gibbons, MLB.com reports. Entering Saturday, Goins is batting .423 with six runs scored and two RBI over his first seven games.

Cabrera finished 3 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBI. He added a walk to push his batting line to an absurd .360/.450/.685. All three lead the league, as Chris Davis's slugging percentage fell to .679 on Sunday.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin kept outfielder Yoenis Cespedes and his struggling bat out of the starting lineup for Sunday's game in Baltimore, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.  

"He's having a tough time right now," Melvin said Cespedes, who has gone just 4 for 26 (.154) over his last six games with 10 strikeouts. 

Melvin believes Cespedes' struggle stem from a combination of how he's being pitched and his approach at the plate. He's been a little aggressive swinging at pitches out of the zone, according to the skipper. 

The Blue Jays have recalled shortstop Ryan Goins from Triple-A Buffalo, MLB.com reports. Goins, 25, owns a .257/.311/.369 line for Buffalo in 111 games.

Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera did not seem to be affected much by his lingering abdominal injury Wednesday, as he drove in three runs in a 7-1 win over the Twins.

He was hitless in his first three at-bats before a bases-loaded double in the eighth inning that drove in three runs. He added a walk earlier in the game, and was replaced by a pinch runner after his double, with the game in hand.
