MLB.com reports Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes was scratched from Sunday's starting lineup due to soreness in his right shoulder. Nate Freiman slotted in as the replacement at designated hitter for the series finale at Texas.

Ryan Goins in the mix at keystone for 2014
The Toronto Sun reports the Blue Jays are considering bringing Ryan Goins back as the team's regular second baseman next season. Goins has received the bulk of the work at the position since Maicer Izturis went on the 60-day disabled list with an ankle injury in late August.
Though Goins has struggled at the plate, hitting .250 with three extra-base hits in 64 at-bats, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons told the Sun that the rookie has "put himself in the picture for the simple reason that he’s able catch the ball and make not just the routine plays, but some difficult plays as well."

Brad Miller out as expected on Sunday
Brad Miller was out of the Mariners' lineup for Sunday's game at the Cardinals. He left Saturday's game early with a strained left hamstring, and MLB.com had reported that Mariners manager Eric Wedge anticipated Miller missing at least "a couple days."
Carlos Triunfel got the nod at shortstop in Miller's place for Sunday's contest.

Brad Miller exits with strained hamstring
Mariners second baseman Brad Miller was forced out of Saturday's game against the Cardinals with a strained left hamstring. Miller appeared to have suffered the injury while running to first base in the fifth inning. He was replaced by Carlos Triunfel at the start of the sixth inning.
Miller finished 1 for 2 before leaving the game. He is batting .260/.314/.402 with six homers and 31 RBI in 281 at-bats. He is expected to miss a few games, according to manager Eric Wedge. -

J.D. Martinez activated from DL
The Astros activated outfielder J.D. Martinez from the 15-day disabled list prior to Friday's game against the Angels.
Martinez was not in the lineup Friday. He batted .256 with seven home runs and 36 runs driven in 273 at-bats before suffering a sprained wrist on July 26. -

Yoenis Cespedes drives in three runs
Athletics outfielder Yoenis Cespedes doubled twice Wednesday night during a big win at Minnesota. With the A's scoring 18 runs and notching 22 hits, Cespedes went 2 for 3 with three RBI.
Cespedes drove in Brandon Moss for the first run of the game in the second inning. He added two more RBI in the fourth with his double to deep right field.
The Cuban defector has hit in six straight games and has gone 10 for 23 with a homer and seven RBI. He's driven in at least one run in five straight games. Cespedes has hit in nine of his last 10 contests. -

Jim Leyland, Miguel Cabrera ejected in first inning
Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera and manager Jim Leyland were both ejected in the first inning of Monday's game against the White Sox for arguing balls and strikes, MLB.com reports. Cabrera was ejected during his first at-bat and was replaced mid-at-bat by Ramon Santiago, who was retired by starter Chris Sale.

Michael Brantley back for Indians
Indians outfielder Michael Brantley has returned for Cleveland Monday as the team prepares to play the Royals, MLB.com reports. Brantley's wife delivered a baby daughter and he was away from the team to attend the birth.
Brantley, batting .278 on the year with eight homers, 59 RBI and 15 stolen bases, has an eight-game hitting streak going. He's gone 11 for 28 (.393) over that stretch with two doubles, a triple and three stolen bases.

Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera returned to action Friday night against the Royals.
Cabrera singled in a run in the second inning for his only hit of the night. He finished 1 for 3 with two walks and an RBI in a 16-2 win. He owns a .355/.447/.673 with 43 homers and 131 RBI in 490 at-bats. -
