Twins' Byron Buxton: X-rays come back negative

Buxton (hand) is set to undergo an MRI after his X-rays came back negative, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Buxton suffered a hand injury during Thursday's Triple-A action on a swing, and he left the game shortly after. Although he's currently being considered day-to-day, a stint on the disabled list hasn't been ruled out. More information should become available following the MRI.

Athletics' Mark Canha: Drives in go-ahead runs Thursday

Canha went 2-for-4 with two RBI from a run-scoring single and also scored once in a win over the Astros on Thursday.

Canha's clutch single to left in the eighth brought home Matt Olson and Matt Chapman, snapping a 4-4 tie and completing a furious six-run rally for the Athletics. The outfielder's productive day was an extension of what is a month-long hot streak, and he's now hitting .306 over his 40 plate appearances in July.

Twins' Byron Buxton: Suffers hand injury

Buxton exited Triple-A Rochester's game Thursday after sustaining a hand injury, Dan Hayes of The Athletic Minnesota reports.

Buxton left the game after fouling off a trio of pitches during the fourth inning. The severity of the injury is unclear at this point, and the 24-year-old will undergo X-rays and additional testing over the next few days.

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Out again Thursday

Ohtani isn't in Thursday's starting lineup against the Mariners.

Ohtani will take a seat for his second straight game, although he did pinch-hit Wednesday. The 23-year-old is slashing .279/.359/.515 with seven homers and 22 RBI as a batter this season.

Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Two hits in Rays debut

Choi went 2-for-4 with a ground-rule double in a win over the Tigers on Wednesday.

Choi drew the start at designated hitter in his first taste of action with the Rays, notching a seventh-inning ground-rule double in the process. The 27-year-old has slashed .265/.306/.529 in 36 plate appearances with the Brewers and Tampa this season, and he could potentially remain with the big-league club for an extended period if his production is up to par.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Four hits Wednesday

Stanton went 4-for-5 with a walk, two RBI, a run scored and a strikeout in Wednesday's win over the Orioles.

All four hits were singles, but he also added a walk to reach base five times in all. Stanton seems to have fully recovered from his slow start to the season, hitting .298 with eight homers in June and now .362 with three long balls thus far in July. On the year, Stanton is slashing .276/.348/.518 to go along with 22 homers and 54 RBI.

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Elbow to be reevaluated soon

Ohtani's elbow will be reevaluated July 19, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic Los Angeles reports.

Ohtani hasn't pitched since June 6, but he's been back as a hitter for over a week. After his previous evaluation back in late June, it was revealed that doctors were not recommending surgery, though whether or not he'll be able to pitch again this season remained up in the air. That should become clear following his next evaluation.

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Sits out Wednesday

Ohtani is not in Wednesday's starting lineup against the Mariners, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

After Ohtani just returned from a knee injury Tuesday, the Angels are likely taking it easy with the 23-year-old star, although it's also worth noting that Los Angeles is facing left-hander Marco Gonzales. Albert Pujols is slotted into the lineup as the designated hitter and Jefry Marte will take over at first base with Ohtani likely available to pinch hit off the bench.

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Returns to starting lineup

Ohtani (knee) went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's win over Seattle.

Ohtani was forced to come off the bench Sunday after fouling a ball off his right knee Saturday. The two-way star homered in his lone at-bat Sunday, and reaffirmed the health of his knee with a return to the starting lineup Tuesday. Ohtani is still not ready to pitch due to a Grade 2 UCL sprain in his throwing elbow, but the injury will not affect his status as the Halos' primary designated hitter.

Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Recalled from Triple-A

Choi was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday.

This will be his Rays debut after being acquired from the Brewers on June 10. Choi hit .270/.360/.405 with two home runs with Durham and has a .191/.279/.408 slash line with nine home runs in 179 career MLB plate appearances.
