Torrens will sit Thursday against Oakland.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Draws four walks

Ohtani went 0-for-2 with four walks in Wednesday's loss to Houston.

After hitting his 45th home run Tuesday, Ohtani was mostly avoided by Houston pitchers Wednesday. Two of the four free passes he was was given were intentional, including one in the 10th inning with nobody out. Ohtani's power output this season has likely contributed to his career-high 13.6 percent walk rate.

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Pulled due to soreness

Alvarez went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two total runs and three total RBI in Wednesday's 9-5 win over the Angels. He was replaced in the field in the eighth inning due to soreness, Mark Berman of Fox 26 Houston reports.

Playing left field and batting third in the order, Alvarez produced two big hits for Houston in the victory, launching a 456-foot two-run homer in the first inning and doubling in another run in the eighth. However, he was replaced in the bottom of the eighth frame with the score tied 5-5, and Astros manager Dusty Baker said after the game that Alvarez was "sore." It's unclear if this will be a multi-game injury, though Baker stated that Alvarez "probably won't play" in Thursday's series finale following the extra-innings win.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Managing foot issue

Buxton is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Cubs due to a foot injury, though he's available to pinch hit off the bench, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Buxton went 2-for-5 with two runs and a stolen base during Tuesday's contest, but he was also hit by a pitch in the foot that will sidelined him for at least one game. He should be considered day-to-day while Nick Gordan mans center field for the Twins.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Slams another highlight-reel homer

Stanton went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and an RBI groundout in Tuesday's 7-1 win over the Rangers.

Typically known for his arcing, titanic blasts, Stanton's home run Tuesday was a highlight-worthy one mostly for the speed in which it left the yard rather than its distance. According to Statcast, Stanton's 415-foot line-drive blast to left field was clocked at 118.5 miles per hour off the bat, making it the third-hardest-hit home run of 2021. Per the Associated Press, Stanton now has 10 home runs with exit velocities exceeding 118 mph since Statcast began tracking those speeds in 2015; all other MLB hitters have combined for 10 such long balls.

Brantley (knee) is not expected to be activated off the injured list when eligible Wednesday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Houston manager Dusty Baker said it was unlikely that Brantley will be ready to go Wednesday. He cited the need for Brantley to run the bases again and take more batting practice, although the outfielder did participate in a full pregame workout prior to Tuesday's contest.
