  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

Guardians' Franmil Reyes: Records rare steal

Reyes went 1-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Rays.

Reyes isn't known for his speed, but he singled, moved to second on an Andres Gimenez walk, stole third and scored on an Austin Hedges single in the fifth inning. Both of Reyes' steals this season have come in July, a month in which the designated hitter batted .230 (23-for-100) with nine extra-base hits, 12 RBI and 12 runs scored. For the season, he's slashing .214/.254/.351 with nine home runs, 28 RBI, 24 runs scored and nine doubles in 279 plate appearances.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: May resume activities early in week

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Stanton (Achilles) should be cleared to start baseball activities "early this week," Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Stanton, who is recovering from left Achilles tendinitis, will be eligible to come off the injured list Wednesday, but it looks as though he'll need more than the minimum amount of time to recover from the injury and get fully ramped back up. Assuming Boone's prediction comes to pass, a weekend activation could be a possibility for Stanton, though the Yankees are more likely to wait until the following week to bring the slugger back. The team's recent acquisition of Andrew Benintendi lessens the need for the Yankees to rush Stanton back at less than 100 percent.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Yet to resume baseball activities

Stanton (Achilles) hasn't yet returned to performing baseball activities, the Associated Press reports.

Stanton landed on the 10-day IL on July 26 and is eligible to return Aug. 3, but it doesn't appear likely that he'll be back after a minimum stay. The slugger was originally thought to be experiencing fatigue, but an MRI later turned up left Achilles tendinitis. It's unclear how long Stanton will be sidelined, but the organization may opt to take a conservative approach given his recent injury history.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Yankees' Matt Carpenter: Slugs 15th homer

Carpenter went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in an 8-2 win against Kansas City on Saturday.

Carpenter made his first start in three games and came through with a solo shot to right field in the seventh inning. The homer was his 15th in only 40 games with the Yankees, and he's slashing an impressive .311/.425/.792 over that span. Despite the impressive numbers, Carpenter's playing time could take a hit with New York's acquisition of Andrew Benintendi, though the former is versatile enough to still carve out enough playing time to make an impact.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Logs homer, steal

Buxton went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk, an additional run and a stolen base in a 7-4 win against the Padres on Saturday.

Buxton took San Diego starter Joe Musgrove 434 feet deep to left in the fourth inning, walked in the sixth and singled, stole second and scored in the eighth. The dynamic 28-year-old has started the second half strong with three long balls in four games, while the theft was his second of July but only his third of the campaign. Buxton is slashing .222/.297/.556 with 26 home runs, 55 runs, 46 RBI and three stolen bases in 288 at-bats.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Smashes 22nd homer

Ohtani went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run, a walk and two total runs scored in Saturday's 9-7 win over the Rangers.

Ohtani gave the Angels their first lead in the back-and-forth game with his third-inning blast. He also walked in the eighth and came around to score the go-ahead run on a Luis Rengifo two-run double. Prior to Saturday, Ohtani had gone only 3-for-22 at the plate in his previous six games, though two of those hits went for extra bases. He's slashing .251/.346/.486 with 22 long balls, 62 RBI, 57 runs scored and 11 stolen bases through 422 plate appearances.

  • Jesse Winker DH | NYM

Mariners' Jesse Winker: Out against Valdez

Winker is not in Saturday's lineup against the Astros.

Winker will head to the bench against tough southpaw Framber Valdez. Dylan Moore gets the start in left field, batting sixth.

  • Jesse Winker DH | NYM

Mariners' Jesse Winker: Snaps slump with double

Winker went 1-for-3 with a double and a run in a loss to the Astros on Friday.

Winker laced an eighth-inning two-bagger off Justin Verlander and was subsequently brought home by a Julio Rodriguez double for the Mariners' only run of the night. Prior to the hit, the slumping outfielder had been mired in an 0-for-10 skid since returning from a one-game absence due to an ankle injury.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Likely trade candidate

Martinez is likely to be traded before Tuesday's trade deadline, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Martinez's name has popped up in reports from Alex Speier of the Boston Globe and Sean McAdam of the Boston Sports Journal in the last week. Speier wrote "there is a good likelihood that the Red Sox will deal Martinez," while McAdam mentioned the Dodgers and Mets as being interested. Martinez is in the final year of his contract, and the Red Sox don't seem intent on bringing him back in 2023.

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Homers, reaches base five times

Alvarez went 3-for-3 with a solo home run, an RBI single, two walks and an additional run scored in an 11-1 win over the Mariners on Friday.

Alvarez continued his MVP-caliber season, reaching base five times and going deep for his 30th home run of the season to power the Astros over their surging division rivals. Alvarez leads all qualified hitters with a superb .423 on-base percentage. The 25-year-old left-handed power bat now has 69 RBI and an OPS of 1.110 in 84 games.
