Red Sox's Justin Turner: Gets Monday off

Turner is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Turner's absence from the starting nine looks to be little more than a veteran's day off while the Red Sox and Angels conclude their four-game series with a day game that begins at 11:10 a.m. local time. Outfielder Masataka Yoshida will get a day out of the field to fill Turner's usual spot as Boston's designated hitter.

  • Brent Rooker DH | ATH

Athletics' Brent Rooker: Notches another multi-hit game

Rooker went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Mets.

Rooker has started six straight games and has notched two hits in all but one of them, slashing .417/.464/.958 with four home runs, 11 RBI and a 1.423 OPS over that span. The 28-year-old has been hitting in the heart of the Athletics' order each day, and he showcased power at Triple-A last season with 28 home runs in 81 games. The run he's on isn't sustainable, but it looks like the A's are turning him into an everyday player and he should warrant some fantasy consideration.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Dealing with Grade 2 strain

Stanton, who was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday, is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks after being diagnosed with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain following an MRI, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports.

The Yankees haven't confirmed the estimated 4-to-6-week timeline, but because he's dealing with a moderate hamstring strain rather than a Grade 1 strain, he'll be in store for more than a minimum-length stay on the shelf. Willie Calhoun started at designated hitter and could see more run while Stanton is sidelined, though the expected return of Josh Donaldson (hamstring) from the IL later this week may limit Calhoun's opportunities.

Red Sox's Justin Turner: Hits two-run homer in win

Turner went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Angels.

Turner hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the third off Reid Detmers, marking the veteran's first long ball of the season. He has an extra-base knock in four of his past five appearances and has notched three multi-hit contests during that stretch.

  • Nick Solak 1B | PIT

White Sox's Nick Solak: Designated for assignment

Solak was designated for assignment by the White Sox on Sunday.

It's been a roller coaster of movement for Solak in 2023. He was claimed off waivers from the Mariners by the White Sox on Friday just a few weeks after Seattle traded for the outfielder from the Reds. If Solak goes unclaimed, he could report back to Charlotte.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Out with hamstring strain

Stanton is being placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a strained hamstring, Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports.

The 33-year-old apparently suffered the injury during Saturday's matchup with the Twins as he legged out a long double. Stanton is scheduled to undergo an MRI, which should provide some clarity on the severity of the injury. Oswald Peraza was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in corresponding move.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Steps out of lineup Sunday

Stanton is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.

Stanton started the past four games and will take a seat after he went 4-for-16 with a home run, a double, three RBI and six strikeouts during that stretch. Willie Calhoun will bat sixth as the designated hitter in Sunday's series finale.

  • Astros' Michael Brantley: Taking live BP

Brantley (shoulder) took live batting practice Friday, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Brantley continues to ramp up into baseball activities as he nears the end of his recovery from right shoulder labrum repair surgery last August. He could soon begin taking at-bats in simulated games and is on track to join the Astros around the first week of May.

  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

Blue Jays' Brandon Belt: On bench Saturday

Belt is out of the lineup Saturday against the Rays.

Belt has gotten it going a bit after a dreadful start to the season, going 4-for-10 with two doubles and an RBI over his last three games. He'll start out on the bench Saturday with Tampa Bay lining up a bullpen game. Alejandro Kirk is the designated hitter and Danny Jansen is catching Saturday.

  • Brent Rooker DH | ATH

Athletics' Brent Rooker: Goes deep again Friday

Rooker went 2-for-5 with an RBI infield single and a solo home run in a loss to the Mets on Friday.

Rooker's long-ball barrage continued with a 401-foot shot to center field in the sixth inning that served as his fourth homer in the last three games. The 28-year-old journeyman now boasts a five-game hitting streak as well, one that includes four consecutive two-hit efforts and has pushed his early slash line to a stellar .346/.379/.808 across 29 plate appearances.
