  • Cardinals' Willson Contreras: Gets Saturday off

Contreras will sit Saturday against Cincinnati, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Contreras has seemingly fully re-earned the Cardinals' trust, as he started eight of the last nine games behind the plate heading into Saturday's contest. He's slumped at the plate for the last several weeks, however, grabbing just five hits in his last 16 games, slashing .088/.175/.193 over that stretch. Andrew Knizner will be the Cardinals' catcher Saturday.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Sitting Saturday

Contreras is not in Saturday's lineup against the Athletics.

Contreras is hitting .207 with one home run in 29 at-bats this month. Victor Caratini will start behind the dish and hit eighth.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Extends on-base streak Friday

Langeliers went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run in a loss to the Brewers on Friday.

Langeliers extended his on-base streak to six games with his solid night at the plate, one that saw him match his 2022 rookie-season tally of 17 extra-base hits via his double. Langeliers' .219 average and .690 OPS still have plenty of room for improvement, but he's in the midst of his best offensive stretch of the season with a .286/.375/.457 slash line across the last 11 games.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Heads to bench Saturday

Murphy is not in Saturday's lineup against the Nationals.

Murphy is hitting .342 with two home runs over his last 10 games. Travis d'Arnaud will start behind the dish and bat fifth.

  • Eric Haase C | SF

Tigers' Eric Haase: Remains on bench

Haase will sit for the second straight game Saturday against Arizona.

Haase seemed to be moving ahead of Jake Rogers on the Tigers' catching depth chart, starting seven of 10 games during a stretch which ran from May 24 through June 3. In the six games since then, however, it's been Rogers who's started four times. Rogers has now made 33 starts behind the plate to Haase's 29 this season, but Haase still has more playing time overall thanks to his 10 starts in left field and two at designated hitter.

  • Pirates' Austin Hedges: Rare offensive contribution

Hedges went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI on Friday against the Mets.

Hedges hit a ground-rule double to the opposite field in the second to drive in two, marking only his fifth extra-base hit of the season. He's been relatively productive by collecting five hits in 18 at-bats across his last five games, though he still has a dreadful .179 average for the season across 122 plate appearances. With both Henry Davis and Endy Rodriguez currently playing at Triple-A Indianapolis, Hedges could also be at risk of losing playing time in the relatively near future.

  • Jake Rogers C | DET

Tigers' Jake Rogers: Two solo home runs in loss

Rogers went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs in Friday's 11-6 loss against the Diamondbacks.

Rogers has appeared in 39 games (120 plate appearances) and continues to be an all-or-nothing offensive player while operating as the backup catcher behind Eric Haase. The former has just 18 hits on the season, but 12 of those have gone for extra-bases, including eight home runs. Friday's performance was the first multi-homer game of Rogers' big-league career.

  • Gary Sanchez DH | MIL

Padres' Gary Sanchez: Keeps power up Friday

Sanchez went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Friday's 9-6 win over the Rockies.

Sanchez has homered three times over his last four games while adding seven RBI in that span. All five of his homers on the year have come in 10 games with San Diego after he bounced around multiple organizations to start the year. He's at a .275/.318/.700 slash line through 44 plate appearances. The power may be legit, but he won't bat that well all year -- he hasn't hit higher than .232 over the last five seasons.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Launches solo shot

Grandal went 3-for-4 with a solo homer in Friday's win over Miami.

Grandal's second-inning home run opened the game's scoring and was his first long ball since May 23. In nine games since between then and Friday, he was stuck in a 4-for-31 (.129) rut. The veteran catcher is now slashing .263/.330/.404 with 14 extra-base hits and 17 RBI through 188 plate appearances.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

Giants' Joey Bart: Evaluated to determine next steps

Bart (groin) is being evaluated by the Giants on Friday to determine his next steps, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Bart has been on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento, and the Giants will see how their backstop is recovering from the left groin strain that has sidelined him since the middle of May. It's possible Bart could be activated in the early part of next week, but his status likely won't be updated until the weekend. It's also unknown if he'll return to a starting role with Patrick Bailey receiving most of the reps behind the plate while Bart has been out.
