  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Sitting again Friday

Murphy is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Marlins.

Rookie Drake Baldwin will get another start behind the plate following his first career two-homer game Thursday. With Marcell Ozuna's bat coming alive again from the DH spot, Murphy may be squeezed out of the lineup more often moving forward.

  • Twins' Jhonny Pereda: Joining active roster

The Twins recalled Pereda from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday.

Pereda will step in for Christian Vazquez (shoulder), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, to provide catching depth behind Ryan Jeffers. Since being claimed off waivers July 22, Pereda has gone 7-for-21 (.333) with a homer, two doubles and a triple for St. Paul.

  • Twins' Christian Vazquez: Heads to IL

The Twins placed Vazquez on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a left shoulder infection.

The issue is with his non-throwing shoulder, but it will still require a stint on the injured list. The 34-year-old Vazquez will be eligible to return for the start of a three-game homestand against the Athletics which begins Aug. 19. Until then, Jhonny Pereda and Mickey Gasper will provide catching depth behind Ryan Jeffers.

  • Ali Sanchez C | BOS

Red Sox's Ali Sanchez: Picked up by Red Sox

The Red Sox claimed Sanchez off waivers Friday.

Sanchez will provide some catching depth after being designated for assignment by Toronto on Tuesday. Carlos Narvaez is currently tending to knee soreness, and Sanchez could see action if Boston's starter is forced to miss time. Per Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, the Red Sox plan to have Sanchez join the rest of the team in San Diego as part of the 26-man roster.

  • Henry Davis RF | PIT

Pirates' Henry Davis: Cracks needed homer

Davis went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and two runs scored Thursday against the Reds.

Davis entered Thursday with only one hit across his previous 39 at-bats while striking out at a 30.6 percent clip. That drought ended when he led off the fourth inning with a single before coming around to score, and he then went yard three frames later. While Davis managed to tally his fifth home run of the campaign, he is still hitting only .172/.254/.290 across 193 plate appearances.

  • Braves' Drake Baldwin: Impresses with two-homer night

Baldwin went 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI in Thursday's win over the Marlins.

Baldwin opened the scoring with a solo blast off Eury Perez, Baldwin's first long ball since July 9, before adding a three-run shot in the sixth for his first multi-homer game in the majors. The rookie backstop is heating up in August, batting 8-for-21 (.381) with three multi-hit performances. As Atlanta furthers from playoff contention, Baldwin could see more at-bats versus left-handed pitching down the stretch.

  • Brewers' Jeferson Quero: Activated off minor-league IL

Quero (shoulder) was activated off the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Nashville on Thursday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Quero was not even two weeks into a projected 3-to-4 week absence with a mild left shoulder sprain, so he appears to have recovered much faster than anticipated. The 22-year-old has slashed .259/.333/.362 with two home runs in 30 games with Nashville this year.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Riding pine Thursday

Murphy isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against Miami.

Murphy will get a day to regroup Thursday after going 1-for-17 to begin the month of August. Drake Baldwin will get the starting nod at catcher while Murphy sits, and Marcell Ozuna will serve as Atlanta's designated hitter.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Day off Thursday

Stephenson is not in the lineup for Thursday's tilt in Pittsburgh.

It appears to be a routine day off for Stephenson, who had started five of the previous seven contests. Jose Trevino will do the catching and bat eighth in Thursday's series opener.

  • Kyle Teel C | CHW

White Sox's Kyle Teel: Out of Thursday's lineup

Teel is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Seattle.

Teel will get a breather after starting each of the last four games (three at catcher, one at designated hitter). Edgar Quero will handle the catching and will bat seventh for the White Sox in Thursday's matinee.
