  • Marlins' Jacob Stallings: On bench Monday

Stallings is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Stallings will take a seat for the second straight game, giving way to Nick Fortes behind the plate. Despite sitting in favor of Fortes in consecutive starts, Stallings has the edge in playing time so far in September, making six starts to Fortes' four.

  • Riley Adams C | WAS

Nationals' Riley Adams: Gets hand surgery

Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Monday that Adams underwent successful surgery to repair the fractured hamate bone in his left wrist, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Adams is expected to be fully healed from the procedure ahead of spring training in February. Drew Millas will serve as the top backup to Keibert Ruiz for the rest of the season while Adams is on the shelf. Adams finishes his second full season in Washington with a .273/.331/.476 slash line to go with four home runs, 21 RBI and eight runs across 158 plate appearances over 44 games.

  • Gary Sanchez DH | MIL

Padres' Gary Sanchez: Moves to 60-day IL

The Padres transferred Sanchez (wrist) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.

Sanchez had already been ruled out for the season after fracturing his right wrist last week, so his move to the 60-day IL was merely procedural. The transaction opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for right-handed reliever Nick Hernandez, whose contract was selected from Triple-A El Paso. Sanchez is expected to avoid surgery and should be fully cleared ahead of spring training.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Not in Monday's lineup

Alvarez (hand) is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Diamondbacks, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Alvarez had to be removed from Sunday's win over the Twins after being hit on the hand by a pitch. X-rays came back negative and he's considered day-to-day, but the young catcher will miss at least one start. Omar Narvaez is behind the dish Monday, though manager Buck Showalter said that while Alvarez is still sore, the 21-year-old could be available in a pinch-hitting capacity, per Laura Albanese of Newsday.

  • Jose Herrera C | TEX

Diamondbacks' Jose Herrera: Recalled from Triple-A

Herrera was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Monday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Herrera will give the Diamondbacks another option at catcher after Gabriel Moreno (personal) was placed on the paternity list Monday. In 118 plate appearances in the big leagues this season, Herrera has hit .212 with no home runs and one stolen base.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Goes on paternity leave

Moreno was placed on the paternity list Monday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Moreno had a day off Sunday and will now miss a little more time while tending to more important real-life matters. Jose Herrera was summoned from Triple-A Reno to help handle catching duties along with Seby Zavala while Moreno is away from the team for the next 1-to-3 days.

  • Connor Wong C | BOS

Red Sox's Connor Wong: Sits again Monday

Wong is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

After going 5-for-13 at the plate over a stretch of four consecutive starts behind the plate, Wong will find himself on the bench Monday for the second day in a row. Reese McGuire will be rewarded with another start at catcher after going 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI in Sunday's 7-3 win over the Orioles, but Wong still looks to be the Red Sox's preferred backstop.

  • Carlos Perez C | CHW

White Sox's Carlos Perez: Summoned from Triple-A

Perez was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Monday.

Perez will operate as a third catcher alongside Korey Lee and Yasmani Grandal. He has posted a .611 OPS over 18 games during his time with the big club this season.

  • Cardinals' Andrew Knizner: Tallies second steal

Knizner went 1-for-3 with one RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's 7-1 loss to the Reds.

Knizner's RBI single in the fourth inning was the only hit for the Cardinals in the contest. The catcher had gone 0-for-17 across his previous five games, dating back to Aug. 25. He's slashing .242/.287/.442 with 10 home runs, 30 RBI, 27 runs scored and two steals over 203 plate appearances. Knizner's playing time is likely to remain limited as he works in a backup role to Willson Contreras.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Taking seat in first contest

Murphy is not in the lineup for the first game of Monday's doubleheader against the Phillies.

Murphy and Travis d'Arnaud have been deployed in a timeshare at catcher for Atlanta in the second half of the season, and manager Brian Snitker will go with d'Arnaud behind the dish for the afternoon tilt. Expect Murphy to be in the lineup for the nightcap.
