  • Carson Kelly C | CHC

Cubs' Carson Kelly: Not starting Monday

Kelly (hand) isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Padres.

Kelly underwent X-rays on his catching hand after being struck by a pitch during Sunday's matchup with the Dodgers, and while the tests came back negative, he won't draw the start behind the plate in Monday's series opener. Miguel Amaya will bat eighth in Kelly's absence.

  • Rockies' Braxton Fulford: Gets first big-league call-up

The Rockies selected Fulford's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday.

Colorado opened up room for Fulford on the 26-man active roster by placing Kris Bryant (back) on the injured list. Fulford had gotten off to a strong start to the season at Albuquerque, slashing .395/.477/.868 with five home runs and 10 RBI across 44 plate appearances. The 26-year-old will provide a third catcher behind Hunter Goodman and Jacob Stallings. Fulford's arrival could allow Goodman to see more time as the Rockies' designated hitter following Bryant's placement on the IL, which would allow the more defensive-minded Stallings to see more opportunities behind the plate.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

    Padres' Elias Diaz: Sitting Monday

Diaz is not in the Padres' starting lineup against the Cubs on Monday.

Diaz will be on the bench Monday while Martin Maldonado serves behind home plate and bats ninth against Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon. Diaz has gone 4-for-16 with four walks, two runs scored and two RBI over his last five starts.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Taking seat Monday

Jeffers is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

Jeffers returned to action Sunday following a two-game absence with a swollen thumb, but he's now back on the bench for Monday's series opener. He has not had any known setback, so this appears to be a routine day off for Jeffers. Christian Vazquez will do the catching and bat ninth for the Twins.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Grabbing seat Monday

Kirk is not in the lineup for Monday's contest versus Atlanta.

Kirk had started each of the previous two games but will being Monday's series opener on the bench. Tyler Heineman will do the catching and bat ninth for Toronto.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

Pirates' Joey Bart: Out again Monday

Bart (back) is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

Bart hasn't played since exiting Friday's 5-3 loss to the Reds due to lower-back discomfort, but he's expected to be available off the bench Monday after manager Derek Shelton said that the backstop caught a bullpen session earlier in the day, per Alex Stumpf of MLB.com. The Pirates called up Henry Davis from Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday to provide some extra insurance behind the dish while Bart has been tending to the back injury. Davis started at catcher in the previous two games, but Endy Rodriguez will form a battery with starting pitcher Paul Skenes in Monday's series opener.

  • Cal Raleigh C | SEA

Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Another homer Sunday

Raleigh went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Sunday's win over the Rangers.

Raleigh got the Mariners on the board quickly with a two-run blast off Nathan Eovaldi in the first inning. The switch-hitting catcher has now slugged a home run in three straight games and is up to five on the season. The batting average remains low (.220), but Raleigh is tied for second among all catchers with two steals through 16 games after stealing six bases in 153 games last year.

  • Luis Torrens DH | NYM

Mets' Luis Torrens: Three hits in win

Torrens went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Sunday's win over the Athletics.

Torrens opened up the scoring with an RBI base knock in the sixth and added on more with an RBI-double in the ninth. He's been productive as the Mets' top option behind the dish while Francisco Alvarez (hand) has been sidelined to begin the season, slashing .333/.375/.567 with a home run, five RBI, two runs and a 2:7 BB:K in 32 plate appearances. However, with Alvarez currently in the midst of a rehab assignment and perhaps in line to return from the IL during the upcoming week, Torrens will soon be headed to a reserve role.

  • Matt Thaiss C | BOS

White Sox's Matt Thaiss: Back in lineup

Thaiss went 1-for-3 with an RBI on Sunday against the Red Sox.

Thaiss sat in the first two games of the series, with Omar Narvaez instead behind the dish. He accounted for the White Sox's only run Sunday with an RBI single in the eighth inning and has now reached base in each of his last four starts. Thaiss has only two extra-base hits this season, though he has maintained a 7:8 K:BB through 34 plate appearances

  • Carson Kelly C | CHC

Cubs' Carson Kelly: X-rays negative on hand

Kelly (hand) underwent X-rays on his left hand, which came back negative, following Sunday's 4-2 win over the Dodgers, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Kelly left the game in the bottom of the sixth inning after being hit by a pitch on his left hand in the fifth frame. The catcher appears to have avoided any significant damage, and he can be considered day-to-day for the time being.
