Heineman is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.

Jason Delay made his MLB debut in Game 1 and Michael Perez will start the nightcap for Pittsburgh. Heineman is 2-for-22 over his past seven games and doesn't have much job security atop the depth charter at catcher.

Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said Tuesday that Jansen (finger) has resumed performing minimal baseball activities, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.

Jansen is scheduled to undergo follow-up imaging on his fractured left pinkie finger in the coming days before potentially being cleared to intensify his activities, but the 27-year-old backstop already sounds like he's making great progress since sustaining the injury July 7. Fortunately for Jansen, the injury is to his non-throwing hand, so he'll just need to prove that the fractured digit doesn't cause too much pain when he catches and swings the bat.

Herrera remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds.

Daulton Varsho has been picking up more playing time in the outfield of late, but Carson Kelly's recent return from the 10-day injured list means that Herrera is still stuck in the No. 2 or 3 role at catcher. Herrera will be on the bench Tuesday for the third straight game.

Nola will sit Tuesday against the Cubs.

The Padres have been remarkably consistent in how they've deployed their catchers in recent weeks. Nola and Jorge Alfaro have alternated turns behind the plate for 20 consecutive games. Alfaro starts Tuesday, but Nola should return to the lineup Wednesday if the pattern holds.

Ruiz will head to the bench Tuesday against Atlanta.

Ruiz has gone 7-for-16 over his last four games, improving his season slash line to .266/.333/.370. Riley Adams will take over behind the plate Tuesday.

Maldonado will sit Tuesday against the Rangers.

Maldonado finds himself on the bench for the second time in three games. While he's handled a heavy workload behind the plate for most of this season, the Astros' tolerance of his poor bat in exchange for his strong defense may be waning. He's hitting .150/.221/.271 on the year. Jason Castro will take over behind the plate.

McCann (wrist) is close to heading out on a rehab assignment, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

It was reported June 4 that McCann could return in early July, and it sounds like he might even be slightly ahead of that timeline. In the meantime, Tomas Nido and Patrick Mazeika are handling the catching duties for the Mets.

Heim will sit Tuesday against the Astros.

Heim has handled a heavy workload behind the plate in recent weeks. Prior to Tuesday's off day, he'd started 19 of the Rangers' last 25 games. He's earned those regular at-bats, slashing .250/.306/.451 on the year. Sam Huff will take over at catcher Tuesday.

D'Arnaud will start at catcher and bat fifth in Tuesday's game against the Nationals.

D'Arnaud closed out Atlanta's weekend series with Pittsburgh by sitting out consecutive games, but he's been behind the plate for both of the first two games of the series in Washington. Meanwhile, William Contreras is once again on the bench, so for the moment, d'Arnaud appears to have recaptured his standing atop the depth chart at catcher, if he ever really lost it at all.

Contreras will sit for the second straight game Tuesday against the Nationals.

Contreras started five out of six games last week, appearing four times behind the plate and once as the designated hitter. That seemed to suggest he was moving into a more consistent starting role, but it's now been Travis d'Arnaud behind the plate the last two games.
