  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Twins' Gary Sanchez: Day off Friday

Sanchez will sit Friday against the Angels, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Sanchez has a .794 OPS with one homer in six games so far this August. Sandy Leon will get the start behind the plate in his absence.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Won't return until Monday

D'Arnaud (lower leg) isn't expected to return until Monday at the earliest, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

The veteran catcher hasn't played since last Saturday due to a lower leg injury. Previous reports indicated d'Arnaud could be back for the weekend series against the Marlins, but he's still unable to squat probably, so he'll remain shut down for a few more days. A trip to the injured list doesn't appear to be in the cards just yet, however. Chadwick Tromp will continue to back up William Contreras in his absence.

  • Elias Diaz C | TEX

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Officially placed on IL

Diaz was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left wrist sprain Friday.

Diaz was believed to be dealing with a hand injury over the last few days, but he recently underwent an MRI that apparently revealed ligament damage in his left wrist. He'll be unavailable for at least a week and a half, while Dom Nunez was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday to provide additional help behind the plate.

  • Dodgers' Austin Barnes: Away for family emergency

Barnes was placed on the family medical emergency list Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Players may spend between three and seven days on the list, which is also referred to as the bereavement list. That means Barnes should be back sometime between Monday and Friday of next week. Tony Wolters was called up to serve as Will Smith's backup behind the plate until then.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: On bench Friday

Jansen isn't starting Friday against the Guardians.

Jansen is out of the lineup for a second consecutive game after he went 2-for-10 with an RBI, two walks and two strikeouts over his last four matchups. Alejandro Kirk will start behind the plate and bat third.

  • Blue Jays' Gabriel Moreno: Dealing with right thumb soreness

Moreno hasn't played at Triple-A Buffalo since Aug. 5 due to right thumb soreness, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.

Although Moreno hasn't been able to participate in games over the last week, he's been cleared to resume a hitting progression. The 22-year-old hasn't been placed on the injured list, so he should be considered day-to-day for now.

  • James McCann C | ARI

Mets' James McCann: Riding pine Friday

McCann isn't starting Friday against the Phillies.

McCann has lost out some playing time recently, and he'll head to the bench for the fourth time in the last six games. Tomas Nido is starting behind the plate and batting ninth.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Still not starting

D'Arnaud (lower leg) isn't starting Friday's game against the Marlins.

D'Arnaud was expected to be available to rejoin the lineup for Atlanta's four-game series in Miami this weekend, but he'll be held out of the lineup once again for the series opener. William Contreras is starting behind the plate and batting fifth.

  • Rays' Francisco Mejia: Day off Friday

Mejia is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Mejia will get a day off after he went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's loss to the Brewers. Christian Bethancourt will take over at catcher and bat seventh in the series opener.

  • Astros' Martin Maldonado: Slugs three-run homer

Maldonado went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run Thursday against the Rangers.

Maldonado went yard in the second inning to open the scoring for Houston. He now has 12 homers on the season, four of which have come in his last 18 games. Despite Houston's acquisition of Christian Vazquez, Maldonado has started seven out of the 10 games since the trade deadline, but even with his relatively strong recent stretch he's still slashing only .187/.252/.370 across 285 plate appearances on the season.
