McGuire (hand) could be available in an emergency Sunday against the Brewers, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

The 28-year-old took a foul tip to the right hand during Saturday's contest but had X-rays come back negative, and it appears he won't require a stint on the injured list. The Red Sox may try to stay away from McGuire for a day or two, but the team may not need to add a third catcher to the roster since he's still technically available.

O'Hoppe was diagnosed with a torn labrum in his left shoulder Sunday and is expected to face a 4-to-6 month recovery after undergoing surgery, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

The 23-year-old suffered the injury Thursday against the Yankees on an awkward swing, and he's now poised to miss most, if not the entirety, of the rest of the 2023 season. It's a horrible break for O'Hoppe and the Angels, as he was off to a strong start to his rookie campaign with a .283/.339/.547 slash line and four home runs in 16 games. Max Stassi (hip) is also still on the injured list, leaving Matt Thaiss and Chad Wallach to handle catching duties for the Halos.

Thaiss is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

Though he's temporarily moved to the top of the depth chart at catcher with Logan O'Hoppe (shoulder) recently joining Max Stassi (hip) on the injured list, Thaiss will take a seat for the day game after a night game while Chad Wallach receives a turn behind the dish. In Saturday's 11-8 loss, Thaiss caught all nine innings and went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and an additional run scored. The two hits were the first of the season for Thaiss, who went 0-for-12 over his first six games with the Angels.

Moreno is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

He'll be getting a breather in the series finale after starting each of the previous three games at catcher while batting 5-for-12 with three RBI and a run. Jose Herrera will step in behind the dish Sunday and will bat ninth.

Contreras is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

Contreras started the past three games and will receive a day off after he went 4-for-12 with two doubles and three runs during that stretch. Victor Caratini will take over behind the plate Sunday and bat sixth.

Herrera (head) is starting at catcher and batting ninth in Sunday's game against the Padres, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Herrera was removed from Wednesday's 14-5 loss to the Cardinals after taking a foul ball off his helmet, but he'll be back in action for Sunday's series finale while No. 1 backstop Gabriel Moreno gets a day off. Starting pitcher Drey Jameson will form a battery with Herrera.

Hedges is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

Hedges went 2-for-8 while starting the first three games of the series and will take a seat for Sunday's finale. Jason Delay will step in behind the plate and bat ninth.

Stallings is not in the lineup for Sunday's game at Cleveland, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Stallings has a .143/.231/.229 slash line and 30.8 percent strikeout rate through 39 plate appearances this season, and he'll step out of the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Guardians. Nick Fortes will work behind the plate and bat eighth.

Vazquez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Vazquez is 2-for-14 with six strikeouts over his past four appearances and will take a seat Sunday for the third time in Minnesota's last four games. Ryan Jeffers will start at catcher with southpaw Patrick Corbin pitching for Washington.

Barnhart is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

With Yan Gomes getting the call against Los Angeles starter Clayton Kershaw, Barnhart will retreat to the bench. The veteran hasn't done much with the bat so far, slashing just .200/.250/.200 with an RBI and a run scored across 25 at-bats. He should continue to split playing time with Gomes, though Luis Torrens, who is starting as the DH on Sunday, could also earn a larger role moving forward.
