  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Hasn't resumed swinging

Rutschman (oblique) has not yet resumed swinging but is hopeful to return before the end of the regular season, MLB.com reports.

The last-place Orioles hope that Rutschman will be recovered from an oblique strain with around 10 days or two weeks before the end of the season, per Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com, so fantasy managers shouldn't anticipate the star catcher being a factor until mid-September at the earliest. With Gary Sanchez (knee) also on the injured list, the lefty-hitting Samuel Basallo should continue working on the strong side of a platoon with the righty-hitting Alex Jackson behind the dish.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Enters starting nine

Moreno will start at catcher and bat fifth against the Dodgers on Friday.

James McCann (undisclosed) was scratched from the D-backs' lineup shortly before first pitch Friday, so Moreno -- originally scheduled for a day off -- will step into the lineup to catch for right-hander Zac Gallen. The 25-year-old backstop has produced four multi-hit performances and owns a 1.123 OPS in five games since returning from the injured list Aug. 20.

  • James McCann C | ARI

    Diamondbacks' James McCann: Scratched Friday

McCann was scratched from the lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Dodgers.

The Diamondbacks haven't provided a reason as to why McCann was taken out of the starting nine, but the team should offer some clarity in the near future. In the meantime, Gabriel Moreno will catch for starter Zac Gallen and bat fifth.

  • Carson Kelly C | CHC

Cubs' Carson Kelly: Not in Friday's lineup

Kelly isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rockies.

The 31-year-old will surrender a second consecutive start at catcher to Reese McGuire on Friday after having started three straight games behind the dish. Kelly has been in a bit of a slump lately, slashing just .224/.288/.224 with six RBI and two runs scored in 21 games since Aug. 1.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Sitting Friday

Moreno isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers.

Moreno will catch a breather Friday after going 4-for-13 with a homer, three RBI and three runs scored during Arizona's last series in Milwaukee. James McCann will draw the start behind home plate instead and bat sixth.

  • Yainer Diaz C | HOU

Astros' Yainer Diaz: Good to go Friday

Diaz (hand) is starting behind the plate and batting seventh Friday against the Angels, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Diaz sat out the past few days due to a hand injury but will return to action for Friday's series opener versus the Halos. The 26-year-old will look to continue his modest five-game hit streak, during which he's gone 7-for-19 with three walks and a homer.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Idle Friday

Realmuto isn't part of the starting lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Realmuto will get the night off Friday after making four straight starts behind the plate. He went 1-for-15 with a two-run home run during that stretch. Rafael Marchan will fill in for Realmuto at catcher.

  • Keibert Ruiz C | WAS

Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Rehab assignment coming soon

Ruiz (concussion) is ramping up baseball activities and is expected to begin a minor-league rehab assignment soon, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reported Friday.

Ruiz started taking swings in batting practice last week, a significant stride in his recovery from a concussion he sustained in early July. The catcher will ramp up baseball activities this weekend, and the expectation is that he'll be cleared to begin a rehab assignment soon. In the meantime, Riley Adams and C.J. Stubbs will handle catching duties.

  • Drew Millas C | WAS

Nationals' Drew Millas: Out for season after surgery

Nationals interim manager Miguel Cairo said Friday that Millas will not return this season after undergoing surgery Friday to stabilize the fracture and repair the joint on his left index finger, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Millas suffered the injury on a catcher's interference during Wednesday's game against the Yankees. The Nationals expect him to be ready for the beginning of spring training.

  • Yohel Pozo C | STL

Cardinals' Yohel Pozo: Placed on concussion injured list

The Cardinals placed Pozo on the 7-day concussion injured list Friday.

Pozo was able to remain in the game after being shaken up by a foul tip to the mask Thursday against the Pirates, but concussion symptoms eventually surfaced and he'll have to miss some time. The Cardinals will go with Jimmy Crooks and Pedro Pages at catcher while Pozo is sidelined.
