Grandal (calf) won't play Saturday against the Tigers, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Manager Tony La Russa is hopeful that Grandal's injury isn't serious, but the 32-year-old should have at least one day to recover. He's considered day-to-day for now and will be evaluated again Saturday to determine his status going forward. La Russa isn't yet sure whether the team will call someone up to serve as a backup catcher in Grandal's absence, but Seby Zavala could be a candidate to join the major-league roster.

Grandal was removed from Friday's game against the Tigers due to left calf tightness.

Grandal went 1-for-2 with a run, an RBI and a strikeout to begin Friday's contest, but he was replaced by Zack Collins behind the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning. The 32-year-old will be further evaluated to determine the extent of his injury.

Plawecki (hamstring) could be reinstated from the injured list by the end of the team's current road trip, which runs through Wednesday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Plawecki has been on the injured list since June 22 due to a left hamstring strain, and he was initially progressing slowly in his recovery. It's not yet clear whether the 30-year-old will require any rehab games before he's activated, but he's been feeling better recently and could be back in action in the coming days.

Jeffers is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Royals.

Jeffers will take a seat for the second time in three games after recording just one hit in his last 12 at-bats. Ben Rortvedt will catch J.A. Happ and bat eighth.

Cleveland manager Terry Francona said Perez (finger) will resume his rehab assignment at Triple-A Columbus on Friday, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports.

Perez, who has been on the shelf since early May after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured finger on his left hand, has thus far appeared in six games during his rehab assignment, going 2-for-12 with a 3:4 BB:K. He was removed in his rehab game Wednesday after bruising his hand, but follow-up examinations revealed nothing concerning. After getting Thursday off to rest, Perez is expected to be ready to catch for Columbus on Friday in what should be his final rehab appearance. If Perez comes out of Friday's game fine, Cleveland could activate him as soon as Saturday.

Murphy isn't starting Thursday against the Rangers, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Murphy went 1-for-6 with an RBI and two strikeouts across the last two games, and he'll retreat to the bench for the second time in the last four contests. Aramis Garcia will start behind the plate and bat ninth.

Trevino was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right forearm contusion Thursday, retroactive to June 29.

Trevino was held out of the lineup for a fourth consecutive game Thursday after he suffered his forearm injury Tuesday, and he'll have additional time to recover while on the injured list. John Hicks is starting at catcher Thursday, but Jonah Heim could serve as the primary backstop in Trevino's absence. David Dahl (ribs) was reinstated from the 10-day IL in a corresponding move.

Trevino suffered a forearm contusion when he slipped in the bathroom Tuesday morning, and he'll be out of the lineup for a fourth consecutive game. The 28-year-old is still considered day-to-day for now, but John Hicks will start behind the dish and bat eighth Thursday.

Jansen (hamstring) has appeared in one rehab game with Triple-A Buffalo, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Jansen hadn't yet run at 100 percent last week, but he's making strides in his recovery and could rejoin the Blue Jays as early as this weekend. Alejandro Kirk (hip) is also on a rehab assignment with the Triple-A club, so the pair could compete for playing time behind the dish in the near future once they're cleared to return.

Sanchez is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Angels, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports.

Sanchez sits after hitting .289/.372/.663 with eight homers in the month of June. Kyle Higashioka will take over behind the plate.
